
M-Braves Drop Thursday Night Contest to BayBears 10-1

PEARL, MS - The Mississippi Braves (17-16, 46-57) dropped Thursday night's contest at Trustmark Park to the Mobile BayBears (13-20, 50-51) 10-1. Daniel Lockhart provided the M-Braves with an offensive bright spot when he tripled in the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring Ray-Patrick Didder thus ending a 14-inning scoreless streak for the M-Braves.
Mobile jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the top of the second inning courtesy of a sacrifice fly from Mitch Ghelfi, a line drive RBI single from Jahmai Jones, and a ground ball single by Brennon Lund followed by a throwing error by M-Braves second baseman, Luis Valenzuela.
The BayBears added their fifth run of the game in the top of the third inning after Jose Rojas scored on a sacrifice fly from the bat of Brendon Sanger.
Mobile extended their lead 6-0 in the top of the fifth inning via a sacrifice fly from Sanger that allowed Zach Gibbons to score from third base.
After being held scoreless for 14 consecutive innings, Lockhart ended the M-Braves scoreless streak in the bottom of the fifth inning when he smacked a scorching line drive RBI triple into right center field, scoring Didder from second base.
Mobile picked up a pair of runs in the top of the eighth inning on a RBI line drive double to left field from Lund. Brandon Sandoval and Jones both scored on the double by Lund, increasing the BayBears lead 8-1.
The BayBears made a final surge in the game in the top of the ninth inning as they plated two insurance runs, pushing their lead 10-1. Riley Unroe grounded into a double play that allowed Rojas to score and Sandoval immediately followed with a RBI ground ball single to right field, scoring Roberto Baldoquin.
Mobile starting pitcher, Alex Klonowski (6-2, 4.46) earned the win after surrendering just one run in 6.0 innings pitched. Mississippi starter, Ricardo Sanchez (1-4, 5.85) suffered the loss.
Mississippi and Mobile will meet in the series finale at Trustmark Park on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. (CST) in what will be a rubber match contest. The series is currently tied 2-2. LHP Bruce Zimmermann (2-1, 3.32) is slated to start Friday night's contest for Mississippi. Zimmermann's counterpart on the mound will be Mobile RHP Joe Gatto (3-4, 6.38.) Friday night's contest will feature Friday Night Fireworks (post-game fireworks after every Friday home game) presented by Patty Peck Honda and WLBT 3 On Your Side.
