M-Braves Drop Fourth Straight Despite Out-Hitting Biscuits 9-3

MONTGOMERY, AL - Despite out-hitting the Montgomery Biscuits (25-13) 9-3 on Tuesday night, the Mississippi Braves (17-20) fell for a fourth straight game, 3-1, at Riverwalk Stadium.

The first inning was once again the decisive inning on the first leg of Mississippi's road trip. Atlanta Braves No. 2 overall prospect Ian Anderson (L, 2-3) let the first four batters reach, three via walks, and a single by reigning Southern League Player of the Week Dalton Kelly, put Montgomery up 1-0. Lucius Fox hit a sacrifice fly to center for the first out of the inning, scoring Josh Lowe and it was 2-0. Anderson recovered a struck out the next two batters to limit the damage to two runs.

Anderson went on to retire seven straight Biscuits, five via strikeout, through the third inning. The Rexford, New York native surrendered a single and then back-to-back walks to begin the fourth inning. The second walk was a 12-pitch at-bat to Kevin Padlo and was his final batter of the night. 28-year-old right-hander Claudio Custodio took over and let one inherited runner score to make it 3-0, but that was all. Anderson walked a career-high six batters, striking out five and letting three runs score on three hits in the loss.

Custodio did yeoman's work on Tuesday night, dealing 4.0 innings of hitless baseball, walking one and striking out three. He and Josh Graham combined to face the minimum over the final 4.0 innings of the game.

The M-Braves left runners on base in six of the first seven innings and finally cracked the scoreboard in the eighth inning. Drew Waters led off with his league-leading 15th double and 20th extra-base hit down the right-field line. The line drive had an exit velocity of 111 mph. With one out, Tyler Neslony lined a double down the left field line scoring Waters. Neslony recorded his first three-hit game of the season, going 3-for-4. Andy Wilkins also notched a multi-hit game, finishing 2-for-4 on the night. Alejandro Salazar saw his seven-game hitting streak come to an end with a 0-for-4 performance on Tuesday.

Biscuits reliever Sam McWilliams (W, 2-1) earned the win with 6.0 innings of one-run baseball and Curtis Taylor (S, 4) allowed one hit in the ninth, but logged the save.

The series concludes on Wednesday evening at Riverwalk Stadium. LHP Kyle Muller (1-1, 2.45) starts for the M-Braves against LHP Kenny Rosenberg (3-0, 1.74) for the Biscuits. The Mississippi Braves will return to Trustmark Park for a Memorial Day Weekend Celebration, May 22-26, at Trustmark Park. Saturday, May 25 the first 1,000 fans will receive an M-Braves Patriotic Cap, in partnership with Mississippi Veterans Affairs.
