Montgomery Biscuits News Release
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Biscuits (25-13) won their season-high sixth-straight game with a 3-1 win over the Mississippi Braves (17-20) in what was the first Tuesday night game of the year at Riverwalk Stadium.
The Biscuits started strong against Mississippi right-hander Ian Anderson (2-3), who walked the first two batters he faced, Miles Mastrobuoni and Josh Lowe, before serving up an RBI-single to Dalton Kelly to make it 1-0. Lucius Fox would follow that up with a sac fly to pad the lead. In the bottom of the fourth Mastrobuoni grounded out to first baseman Andy Wilkins scoring Rene Pinto from third giving Montgomery a 3-0 lead.
Pitcher Brian Shaffer made his Biscuits debut as the opener, tossing two shutout innings before giving way to righty Sam McWilliams (2-1). McWilliams would end up going six innings of one-run ball, surrendering just six hits, one walk, and six strikeouts. Curtis Taylor was summoned from the bullpen in the ninth inning to close it out, giving up one hit, and two strikeouts while picking up his fifth save. All three Biscuit pitchers tonight came from the Arizona Diamondbacks via trades.
The Biscuits now have the best record in the Southern League and will go for their first series sweep of the year on Wednesday night when Kenny Rosenberg (3-0) takes on Kyle Muller (1-1) at 6:35 PM CT.
