PEARL, MS - The Mississippi Braves defeated the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp 8-4 at Trustmark Park on Saturday night. Tyler Marlette continued his hot streak at the plate by going 2-for-5 with a 2B, 3 RBI and a K. Marlette is now riding a 10-game hitting streak after his 2-for-5 performance. Luis Valenzuela turned in a stellar night of his own after going 4-for-5 with a 2B, 3 R, and an RBI.

M-Braves starting pitcher, Andres Santiago was the defensive star of the night. The right-hander tossed as season high 7.0 innings and recorded a season high, eight strikeouts. Santiago allowed five hits, one run, which was earned, and did not issue any walks.

Much like Friday night, the M-Braves bats heated up early as they jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning after Marlette sent a sharp line drive two-run double into left field and Travis Demeritte then scored on a fielding error by Jacksonville shortstop, Mason Davis with Alex Jackson at the plate.

The M-Braves offense exploded for three more runs in the bottom of the second inning courtesy of back-to-back doubles from Luis Valenzuela and Tyler Neslony.

Luis Marte produced the seventh run of the game for the M-Braves in the bottom of the third inning on a ground ball single to center field which allowed Jackson to score.

Jacksonville got on the board in the top of the fourth inning after Monte Harrison sent a line drive solo home run over the center field wall, making the score 7-1.

Marlette, who has been a nightmare at the plate for opposing pitchers as of late, sent a screaming line drive RBI to right field which allowed Luis Valenzuela to score, extending the M-Braves lead 8-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Mississippi held their 8-4 lead until the top of the eighth inning when Jacksonville made things interesting by scoring three runs. Harrison collected his second RBI of the game after singling on a ground ball to right field to score Davis. Eric Jagielo then added a two-run single to cut the scoring deficit in half. A 4-3 putout with the bases loaded allowed the M-Braves to escape the inning without any further damage.

Closer, Jacob Webb once again proved why he is one of the best in the Southern League after striking out two and slamming the door on Jacksonville's offense in the bottom of the ninth inning to preserve the 8-4 victory for the M-Braves.

Santiago (3-0, 3.38) earned the win and Cody Poteet (2-5, 5.33) suffered the loss.
