BayBears Offense Piles on Late Runs to Clinch Series Win

MOBILE, Ala. - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, scored eight unanswered runs, including six in the seventh inning, to defeat the Biloxi Shuckers 11-3 and clinch a series victory Saturday night at Hank Aaron Stadium.

After the Shuckers (29-20) tied the game 3-3 on a pair of fifth-inning homers from Wendell Rijo and Troy Stokes, the BayBears (26-22) quickly responded with two runs in the bottom of the frame to knock Kodi Medeiros (4-2) out of the game. In the seventh, Mobile sent 12 batters to the plate and tallied six runs on five hits.

Griffin Canning tossed 3 2/3 scoreless, hitless innings with five strikeouts in his seventh start with the BayBears. He has not allowed a hit since May 9, spanning nine innings. Alex Klonowski (1-0) earned the win in relief, finishing the game and striking out seven batters.

Five Mobile players had multiple hits, including Brendon Sanger and Michael Barash who both had three. Luis Rengifo hit his second triple in four games and drove in a pair of runs.

The BayBears wrap up the five-game home series against Biloxi Sunday at 2:05 p.m. CDT. Angels No. 10 prospect Jesus Castillo (4-3, 4.30 ERA) is scheduled to make the start against righty Trey Supak (0-0, -.-- ERA) for the Shuckers.
