Mississippi Braves News Release

Hoover, AL - The Mississippi Braves followed a 29-minute rain delay with an 8-2 hammering of the Birmingham Barons on Sunday night at Regions Park.

David Hale spun an excellent game through eight innings, pitching five-hit shutout baseball with six strikeouts en route to his sixth victory. Meanwhile, the Braves (2-2, 32-42) had multiple base runners in five different innings, scoring five insurance runs over the final two frames to even the series with the Barons (2-2, 32-41).

The scoring started in the fourth. Joey Terdoslavich doubled to lead off against starter Nestor Molina. Two batters later, Todd Cunningham hit the second of his three hits to score Terdoslavich with a single. The Braves loaded the bases before Ian Gac singled to right on a full count, making it 2-0.

In the sixth, Cunningham led off with a single and moved around the bases on a wild pitch and a passed ball. Gac then walked with two outs and took off for second. Catcher Luis Sierra threw to second, and Cunningham raced for the plate for a steal of home, putting the Braves ahead 3-0.

In the eighth, the Braves scored three two-out runs when Keenan Wiley cleared loaded bases with a double. The ninth saw back-to-back RBI doubles by Terdoslavich and Tim Smith to build an 8-0 lead.

Nestor Molina suffered the loss, his seventh of the year. He allowed two runs on eight hits in 4 2/3 innings. Brett Cammons came on in the ninth and allowed solo home runs to Jim Gallagher, his first, and and Seth Loman, his tenth, but got the final three outs to preserve the big win.

The series is now tied at two games apiece going into Monday morning's 11:00 AM CT rubber game. Left-hander Sean Gilmartin (5-6, 3.17) takes on Barons left-hander Pedro Hernandez (7-2, 2.91). Listen live beginning at 10:30 AM CT with the Vicksburg Toyota "Countdown to First Pitch" on 103.9 WYAB and online at MississippiBraves.com.
