BayBears Fall Short of Comeback in Sunday Matinee

Behind a five run sixth inning, the Montgomery Biscuits defeated the Mobile BayBears 5-2 at Hank Aaron Stadium Sunday afternoon. The Biscuits managed just three hits through the first five innings but managed to push across five runs on five hits in the sixth inning. The BayBears were limited to just two runs on seven hits and left 13 men on base.

RHP Derek Eitel pitched five scoreless innings before he ran into trouble in the sixth. Brett Nommensen and Hak-Ju Lee lead off the inning with back-to-back singles and Ty Morrison reached on an error by Eitel to load the bases with no outs. Omar Luna put the Biscuits on the board with a double, scoring Nommensen and Lee. Ryan Garko followed with a two-run double in the next at bat and Michael Sheridan capped the scoring with a RBI single, giving Montgomery a 5-0 lead.

The BayBears got one run back in the eighth inning when Marc Krauss drove home Chris Owings on a RBI single. With the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the eighth, Ed Easley grounded out to third, stranding all three runners with Mobile trailing 5-1. The BayBears had another comeback effort in the bottom of the ninth inning when Chris Owings drove in Dan Kaczrowski to make the score 5-2 in favor of the Biscuits. After a single by Stephen Drew and a two-out walk to Marc Krauss, David Nick came to the plate as the winning run, but grounded out to second for the final out.

The BayBears and Biscuits conclude their five game series Monday at Hank Aaron Stadium with first pitch scheduled for 12:05 PM. LHP Tyler Skaggs (5-4) will start for Mobile while RHP Nick Barnese will take the hill for Montgomery.
