Birmingham, AL - The Mississippi Braves defeated the Birmingham Barons 8-2 Sunday afternoon behind 8.0 shutout innings from starter David Hale in front of 1,618 fans at Regions Park.

The M-Braves would get on the board first with two runs in the fourth inning on RBI singles by Todd Cunningham and Ian Gac. Both runs came against Barons starter Nestor Molina (4-7, 4.61) who surrendered eight hits over 4.2 innings before departing with a runner on first in the fifth.

The Braves would take advantage of a spent Barons bullpen, scoring six runs over the final four innings. Keenan Wiley hit a bases-clearing double in the eighth and back-to-back doubles by Joey Terdoslavich and Tim Smith in the ninth plated the final two runs for the Braves.

The Barons avoided the shutout with two solo home runs in the ninth inning. Jim Gallagher led off the inning with his first home run since returning to the Barons last week and with two outs Seth Loman hit his team- leading 10th home run of the season just inside the left field foul pole. The Barons mustered just seven hits on the day while the 15 hits the Braves collected tied a season-high against the Barons.

Braves starter David Hale (6-3, 3.81) picked up the win allowing just five hits over 8.0 scoreless innings with six strikeouts.

The Barons will look to win the series tomorrow as LHP Pedro Hernadnez (7-2, 2.91) takes the hill against LHP Sean Gilmartin (5-6, 3.17). First pitch is scheduled for 11:00 AM CDT.
