Minnesota Lynx News Release
MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL - The Minnesota Lynx will launch new uniforms that have been redesigned for a more unique on-court look and to enhance the growing appeal and recognition of the WNBA and its players. The Lynx will begin wearing the new uniforms on Saturday, May 5 when they take on the San Antonio Silver Stars in Wichita, Kan., in the 2007 preseason opener. The Lynx also announced that the team's primary color has changed from green to blue.
"We are excited about the new look of the Minnesota Lynx," said Lynx Chief Operating Officer Roger Griffith. "With the league's launching of the new uniform style, it allowed us the perfect opportunity to align ourselves with the organization's TRUE BLUE theme. We love the design that the league and adidas came up with for the Minnesota Lynx."
Marking the first season with adidas as the Official Outfitter of the WNBA, the new uniforms will be made of ClimaLite®, the high-performance fabric technology from adidas, and have a new distinct style that creates a women's basketball uniform that looks better than any other. The redesign of the uniforms was a collaborative effort between adidas, the WNBA, and WNBA teams and players. The biggest change was made to the side of the uniform that features a tribal pattern signifying the whiskers of the Lynx face. The pattern was designed to create a distinct look for the WNBA.
For a limited time, Lynx fans also will have the opportunity to purchase Limited Edition WNBA ProCut Jerseys, the same jerseys the players wear on court. Beginning today through May 19, the start of the 2007 WNBA season, Limited Edition WNBA ProCut Jerseys will be available on WNBAStore.com. One player's jersey from each WNBA team will be made available in a limited edition, 1 of 11, representing the 11th season of the WNBA. The Limited Edition WNBA ProCut Jerseys will retail for $300.
The new uniforms have a more refined silhouette due to a smaller shoulder width and the new racer back jersey design. The jerseys will now be tucked into the player's shorts marking the first time since the 2002 WNBA season that the jerseys will be tucked in. The uniforms are constructed with a flat-back mesh fabrication and adidas' ClimaLite® fabric technology that works to regulate the athlete's body temperature by conducting heat and sweat away from the body.
New design elements on the front of the jersey include a signature Y-shaped neckline with a patch insert. The back of the jersey now includes the player's name below the player's number and v-shaped piping below the name. The shorts have a side vent opening, the team's nickname on the back of the road shorts and the team's city or state name on the back of the home shorts. The secondary logo appears on the left leg of the shorts.
New WNBA replica uniforms will be available beginning today on WNBAStore.com.
