Indiana Fever News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - The Indiana Fever and the Women's National Basketball Association has launched new uniforms that have been redesigned for a more unique on-court look and to enhance the growing appeal and recognition of the WNBA and its players. Marking the first season with adidas as the Official Outfitter of the WNBA, the new uniforms will be made of ClimaLite®, the high-performance fabric technology from adidas, and have a new distinct style that creates a women's basketball uniform that looks better than any other. The WNBA will begin wearing the new uniforms on May 2 when the 2007 WNBA preseason begins.
Redesign of the uniforms was a collaborative effort between the WNBA, WNBA teams and players and adidas. The biggest change was made to the side of the uniform which has a dramatic pattern design formed from core elements of each team's logo. The pattern is tribal in nature and was designed to create a distinct look for the WNBA.
Specific to Indiana, the Fever has adopted the use of pinstripes along the sides of the uniform, reminiscent of pinstripes worn previously by the Indiana Pacers. The Fever's uniform will sport blue pinstripes on its home white uniforms, and white pinstripes on its road blue uniforms.
The new uniforms have a more refined silhouette due to a smaller shoulder width and the new racer back jersey design. The jerseys will now be tucked into the player's shorts marking the first time since the 2002 WNBA season that the jerseys will be tucked in. The uniforms are constructed with a flat-back mesh fabrication and adidas' ClimaLite® fabric technology that works to regulate the athlete's body temperature by conducting heat and sweat away from the body.
"As we move into the second decade of WNBA basketball, we have partnered with adidas to develop the uniforms that will position our league and our players at the forefront of performance, style and image in women's sports," said WNBA President Donna Orender. "The redesign of our uniforms creates an identifiable, stylish and functional look on the court while remaining true to the game."
New design elements on the front of the jersey include a signature Y-shaped neckline. The back of the jersey now includes the player's name below the player's number and v-shaped piping below the name. The shorts have a side vent opening, the team's nickname on the back of the road shorts and the team's city name on the back of the home shorts. The secondary logo appears on the left leg of the shorts.
"These uniforms are a fusion of fashion and performance," said Orender. "Players will continue to perform at their best and feel good inside and out."
Fever training camp continues with practices through May 18. Indiana hosts a preseason opener Saturday, May 5 (6:00 p.m.) against the Seattle Storm, during an evening tabbed as Heart Healthy Night. All tickets for the first-time general admission event are $10, with $3 from each ticket being donated to the Community Health Network Foundation to benefit heart screenings throughout the region.
The Fever will participate in two additional preseason games - May 10 vs. Los Angeles (7:00 p.m.) and May 15 at Chicago (8:00 p.m.) - before opening the regular season against the Minnesota Lynx, May 19 (7:00 p.m.) at Conseco Fieldhouse.
