Augusta Lynx News Release
The Augusta Lynx will have a chance to earn their first road win tonight as they visit the South Carolina Stingrays for a divisional matchup at 7:05 pm.
Augusta beat the Stingrays 4-2 to open the season last Friday night. Augusta scored three times in the second period to grab the win going away, while Seamus Kotyk made 26 saves in relief of Jason Wolfe, who left 59 seconds into the middle frame with an injury.
"Our goaltending did exactly what I've always asked of my goaltending: it gave us a chance to win the game," said Lynx head coach and director of hockey operations Bob Ferguson at Monday night's Behind the Bench Coach's Show. "We're very fortunate to have both Wolfe and Kotyk, as they're both capable of playing at a very high level."
Kotyk came back on Sunday to post a 31-save performance in a 1-0 overtime win against the Columbia Inferno as well.
South Carolina, meanwhile, has allowed four goals in each of their first two games. They will be missing a big offensive presence in Cail MacLean, who was injured in Saturday's 5-4 shootout loss to Columbia. MacLean, who had two power play goals in the game, left with a deep thigh bruise and is out indefinitely after emergency surgery.
"We've gotten better defensively, but we're still learning," said Ferguson. "I expect that at the beginning of a season. As long as we continue to get better, we'll be fine."
The Lynx will look to better their record against the Stingrays with the Classic Stucco and Stone Pre-Game Show starting at 6:35 pm. The game will be carried live on the internet via B2 Networks with both audio and video feeds for fans. The Lynx will finish the week out with games on the road Friday in Gwinnett and Saturday in Pensacola.
