Stingrays hand Lynx first loss

October 25, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Augusta Lynx News Release

The South Carolina Stingrays rode three power play goals to a 4-2 win over the Augusta Lynx on Tuesday night.

Augusta grabbed a first-period lead on Colt King's first goal of the year at 11:49 from Ryan Bennett. Bennett won a battle in the corner against the South Carolina defense, centering the puck to a crashing King for the goal and a 1-0 Lynx lead after 20 minutes of play.

South Carolina carried the momentum for most of the second period thanks to six power play chances and a penalty shot. John Hecmovic capitalized on the penalty shot awarded when a Lynx defender covered the puck in the Augusta goal crease at 2:56, beating Seamus Kotyk over the left shoulder. Dave Spina would score a five-on-three power play goal just 33 seconds later from Aaron Power and J.F. David to give the Stingrays a 2-1 lead. Spina tried to feed the puck in front but it deflected off a Lynx defender and into the net past Kotyk.

Despite several more second period power play chances, the Lynx held fast and escaped trailing only 2-1.

In the third, the Lynx tied the game on a Brian Passmore goal from Sam Ftorek and Jake Riddle by going to the net and finding a loose puck at 4:19. Maxime Daigneault thought he had the puck covered but it slipped to his left where Passmore tucked it home to make it 2-2.

The Stingrays would once again find themselves on the power play later in the period, and Ty Morris found a hole at 6:29 with help from Brad Parsons and Aaron Power to score the eventual game winner. Robin Gomez would score an empty net goal to cement the win for the Stingrays.

The Lynx are back in action on Friday night from the Arena at Gwinnett Center when they take on the Gladiators at 7:35 pm. The Classic Stucco and Stone Pre-Game Show kicks off one-half hour before game time on your Home for Lynx Hockey, NEWSTALKSPORTS 1630.
