Augusta's Kotyk Named Reebok Hockey ECHL Saver Of The Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - Augusta goaltender Seamus Kotyk is the Reebok Hockey ECHL Saver of the Week for October 21-23.

The 5-foot-11 and 187-pound Kotyk was 2-0-0 with a shutout, a goals-against average of 0.59 and a save percentage of .983 save percentage.

On opening night, Kotyk came in relief on opening night just after the second period began and stopped 26 of 27 shots to give the Lynx a 4-2 win against South Carolina. In his first ECHL start on Saturday, the 25-year-old made 31 saves, including two in overtime, as Augusta beat Columbia 1-0.

Selected in the fifth round (147th overall) by the Boston Bruins in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, the 25-year-old was 10-6-1 and had a goals-against average of 2.95 in 23 games with Milwaukee of the American Hockey League in 2004-05. On April 17, he became the eighth goalie in AHL history to score a goal when he accomplished the feat against San Antonio.

Kotyk, who played three seasons with Cleveland of the AHL, won the Gretzky Trophy as the Ontario Hockey League's postseason Most Valuable Player in 2001 as the Ottawa 67's advanced to the Memorial Cup. In four seasons with Ottawa of the Ontario Hockey League he was 75-38-18 with 12 shutouts and a goals-against average of 2.73.
