Augusta Lynx News Release
AUGUSTA, GAâ The Augusta Lynx announced today the signing of Veteran center Darryl Laplante. The 25-year-old Calgary, Alberta native is entering his sixth year of professional hockey. He was drafted by the Detroit Red Wings in Round 3 of the 1995 NHL Entry Draft with the 58th overall pick. He was then selected by Minnesota from Detroit in the 2000 Expansion Draft. Laplante has logged 35 games in the NHL, all with the Detroit Redwings. The 6', 205 pound left handed Laplante played in 2 games as a rookie for the Stanley Cup Champion Detroit Redwings during the 1997-98 season. Laplante split time in the American Hockey League last season between Houston and Providence registering 17 points in 41 games.
Known for his dominant two-way play, Laplante was highly sought after by Head Coach Jim Burton. "We're absolutely thrilled to get a player of the caliber of Darryl. He's a two-way centerman that has great credentials and is still very young at just 25 years old. We are looking forward to having him wear the Lynx jersey."
LaPlante will join fellow Calgary native Jim Shepherd as one of the Lynx Veteran player's. "I'm really looking forward to coming to Augusta and playing for the Lynx, I've heard it's a great organization and I'm looking forward to contributing to the teams success," said Laplante.
The Lynx open up their preseason schedule on October 4th and 5th versus the Columbia Inferno, with the Lynx hosting the Inferno on Saturday the 5th at 7:35pm. Lynx season tickets are on sale for the 2002-2003 season. For more information contact the Lynx ticket office at 724-4423.
