August 28, 2002 - ECHL (ECHL)
Louisiana IceGators News Release

Lafayette, LA – The Louisiana IceGators have signed free agent forward Bobby Brown to a standard player's contract for the 2002-03 season, head coach and director of hockey operations Dave Farrish announced Wednesday. Brown, who will turn 27 on September 26, will be entering his seventh pro season after splitting last season between AHL Houston and CHL Austin. Brown is the fifth player to sign with the IceGators this season, joining left wings Shawn McNeil, Dennis Shiryaev and Shawn Skiehar and defenseman Jeff Worlton.

The Winnipeg, Manitoba, native has played in 416 professional games, notching 327 points (136g, 191a) and 486 penalty minutes. In parts of three ECHL seasons with Roanoke, Baton Rouge and Dayton, Brown has amassed 151 points (71g, 80a) and 329 penalty minutes in 194 contests.

"I am looking at Bobby Brown to bring a lot of leadership to our team," said Farrish. "He's a guy with great character and he will help me out so much with some coaching duties as a player/assistant. He's versatile; he plays all three forward positions and the point on the power play. He's also a popular guy in the community, one of those guitar-playin' guys who brings his guitar all over the place."

The 6-foot, 200-pound forward has spent parts of the last two seasons with Houston, the IceGators' AHL affiliate. In 2000-01, Brown notched 25 points (7g, 18a) in 58 games for the Aeros, while last season he recorded four points (all assists) in 20 contests in Houston. Brown spent much of the 2001-02 campaign with Austin of the CHL, where he averaged more than a point a game in 47 contests. Brown had 55 points (21g, 34a) and 29 penalty minutes with the Ice Bats.

Brown's best pro season was in 1998-99 with ECHL Dayton, when he had 60 points (30g, 30a) and 125 penalty minutes in 66 games. In 36 career playoff games, Brown has recorded 25 points (8g, 17a).

"Bobby's been one of the most popular players on all the teams he has played with," added Farrish. "His leadership and flexibility will be great for us. He's another strong character guy to add to the mix of quality guys we've been adding here for the last few years. He's someone Acadiana can be proud of."

The Louisiana IceGators, now owned by the Orlando Predators Entertainment Group (NASDAQ: PRED), open up their eighth ECHL season on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. in Arkansas. Louisiana's home opener is Sunday, Oct. 13 at 4:05 p.m. against Arkansas. For ticketing information call 234-4423.
