Ottawa Lynx News Release

International League Final - Tuesday, July 19th, 2005 @ Lynx Stadium, Ottawa, Ontario

The Ottawa Lynx rallied back from a 4-1 deficit and Bernie Castro singled home Ed Rogers with what would prove to be the winning run as the Lynx topped the Norfolk Tides 6-5 on Tuesday night. Castro went 3-for-4 with two RBI for Ottawa, who also got a two-run homer from David Newhan.

The win improves Ottawa's record to 48-47 on the year. Lynx Player of the Game: 2B Bernie Castro went 3-for-4 and drove home two runs, including the game winner in the bottom of the sixth.

Recap: Norfolk got on the board first with a single run in the top of the 3rd against Lynx starter John Maine. Ottawa replied in the bottom half, as Ryan Hubele walked, went to third on an infield error, and scored on Bernie Castro's ground ball single to right. The Tides jumped to a three run lead in the top of the 5th, the big blow coming on a two-run double by Mike Difelice staking Norfolk to a 4-1 lead. The Lynx would not lie down, scoring four times in the bottom half. Ryan Hubele started the rally with a single, and came around to count when David Newhan blasted his first homer as a member of the Lynx to center field. After Castro was retired, the Lynx loaded the bases on a Midre Cummings double, an Alejandro Freire walk and a Walter Young single. Bobby Darula then hit a chopper to shortstop and on the attempted double play, Tides second baseman Anderson Hernandez threw away the relay throw to first, allowing Cummings and Freire to score to put the Lynx up 5-4. Norfolk would even the score in the top of the 6th on Angel Pagan's RBI single. Ottawa would take the lead for the final time in the bottom of the frame, as Ed Rogers singled, went to second on a sacrifice bunt, and scored one out later on Bernie Castro's line drive single to center. The Tides would attempt to tie the game in the top of the 9th, putting runners on 1st and 3rd with nobody out against Lynx closer Aaron Rakers. Rakers was up to the challenge on this night, striking out Ron Calloway, inducing Prentice Redman to pop up to the catcher and getting a comebacker from Rodney Nye, closing out the game and collecting his sixth save in a 6-5 win.
