Charlotte Knights News Release

FORT MILL, S.C. --A bottom of the ninth rally put the Knights within one, but there wasn't enough magic Tuesday afternoon as the Charlotte Knights lost 3-2 to the Rochester Red Wings, snapping a four-game winning streak. Working against Rochester's closer Travis Bowyer, the Knights got two runs on two hits in the ninth to make it interesting.

Extending his hitting streak to thirteen games, Brian Anderson (2-4) led the inning off with a single. After Jorge Toca reached base on a walk, Joe Borchard (1-4) lined a single up the middle to score Anderson and put Toca in scoring position. Leo Daigle dropped a perfect sacrifice bunt to advance both runners a base, and the wild pitch by Bowyer allowed Toca to score from third. Felix Martinez grounded out, and pinch-hitter Raul Casanova popped up in foul territory to end the game.

Getting just five hits in the game, the Knights had a tough time solving the 21-year-old Francisco Liriano (3-1), who picked up the win after allowing just three hits and two walks while striking out seven in seven strong innings.

Jon Adkins (3-8) suffered the loss for the Knights after giving up just two runs (back-to-back solo shots to Garrett Jones and Rob Bowen in the third) while walking two and striking out four in 6 1/3 otherwise scoreless innings of work.

Matt Smith allowed the third run to the Red Wings in the eighth. An RBI-double by Kevin West, his first hit of the day, drove in Jason Bartlett, who led off the inning with a single.

Roosevelt Brown (1-2, 2 BB) and Wilton Guerrero (1-4) also recorded hits for the Knights.

The Knights and Red Wings are currently tied at one in the series with game three to be played at 7:15 p.m. tomorrow at Knights Stadium. LHP Arnie Munoz (4-10, 3.78) will face RHP Boof Bunser (8-5, 3.62) for the Red Wings.

Notes:

Brian Anderson extended his hitting streak to 13 games (7 multi-hit games), 2-4

Joe Borchard collected his 44 RBI, 1-4

Wilton Guerrero hit his 11 double, 1-4
