OTTAWA â The Ottawa Lynx Baseball Club is pleased to announced that First Baseman Carlos Mendez has been named Batter of the Week by the International League.
The 28 year-old native of Caracus, Venezuela had a tremendous week, hitting ..448. Mendez went 13-for-29 in 7 games, with a double, triple, 3 home runs, and 13 RBIs. Mendez raised his season average to .368, which leads the Lynx and is 4th in the International League heading into tonight's game against the Columbus Clippers.
Mendez leads the International League in hits, with 43, and doubles, with 10. Mendez has been part of the explosive Lynx offence that leads the league in batting average (.294), hits (287), runs (151), doubles (63), and walks (115).
The Lynx (15-14), who have won a season-high six straight games, are home tonight for the first of a four-game series against the Columbus Clippers, the Triple-A affiliate of the New York Yankees. First pitch tonight is 6:05 p.m.
