LAST NIGHT'S GAME Indiana 69, Minnesota 59 With the game tied at 45 after three quarters, the Fever outscored the Lynx 24-14 in the fourth to ensure that the Lynx' bad luck in Indianapolis would continue, as Indiana defeated the locals 69-59 Thursday night at Conseco Fieldhouse. The loss dropped Minnesota to 1-6 vs. the Fever within the boarders of the Hoosier State.
Minnesota was led by rookie guard Seimone Augustus with 16 points followed by Amber Jacobs with 11 and Svetlana Abrosimova with 10. Lynx Captain Tamika Williams chipped in with six points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Indiana was led by its all-star duo of Tamika Whitmore and Tamika Catchings with 18 and 17 points, respectively.
UP NEXT Houston at Minnesota - Friday, Aug. 4, at Target Center (7 p.m.) The Lynx hope to even the season series against the Houston Comets tonight at Target Center. The Comets' two 23-point wins this season against the Lynx equal its 2nd-largest in the series, while Minnesota notched their biggest victory ever against Houston on June 11, 75-62. The Lynx are 6-4 in their last 10 vs. Houston, following a 1-16 start to the series. Minnesota has won four straight against Houston at Target Center.
AUGUSTUS NAMED TO WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM The USA Basketball Women's Senior National Team Committee this week announced that Lynx rookie guard Seimone Augustus has been named to the 2006 USA Basketball Women's World Championship Team. The 15th FIBA World Championship is scheduled to be played Sept. 12-23 in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Also named to the team were Yolanda Griffith (Sacramento Monarchs) and Alana Beard (Washington Mystics). The selections were made by the USA Basketball Women's Senior National Team Committee.
LYNX HOLD GREAT BASKETBALL DRIBBLE The Eighth Annual U.S. Bank Minnesota Lynx Great Basketball Dribble, the team's yearly breast cancer fundraiser, will be held on Sunday, Aug. 6 prior to the Lynx' game against the San Antonio Silver Stars. The Great Basketball Dribble raises funds to support breast cancer research and education in Minnesota, with all the proceeds from this year's event benefiting the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. In seven-plus seasons, the Lynx have raised over half-a-million dollars for breast cancer research in the state of Minnesota through this signature event and other initiatives.
The Great Basketball Dribble, which kicks off at 4 p.m. at Target Center on Aug. 6, is a 2.5-mile walk (or dribble - basketballs are optional) through downtown Minneapolis. The registration fee for the event is $25 per participant and includes a T-shirt, refreshments, entertainment and a ticket to the Lynx game that evening against San Antonio (6 p.m. tip-off)
LYNX WATCH PARTIES Now Lynx fans won't have to miss Lynx games, even when they are on the road. On four dates this season the Lynx will hold Watch Parties at the Naismith Lounge in Target Center's NBA City Restaurant so fans can watch the Lynx play their away games. Festivities include the Lynx game on 35 TV's, 2 for 1 on all drinks and half priced appetizers throughout the game. Also, fans will get the chance to win Lynx merchandise, courtside Lynx tickets and NBA City gift certificates. The next Watch Party is Tuesday, Aug. 8 when the Lynx play at Phoenix. The season's final Watch Party will be held on Sunday, Aug. 13 when the Lynx close out their season in Los Angeles.
