TEAM NOTES
HOW THEY STACK UP
Despite the struggles New York has experienced this season, several Liberty players are standing out amongst the top players in the WNBA ... Although she sat out the last few games with an ankle injury, Becky Hammon has returned and remains one of the ranked players in several statistical categories ... She is the top free-throw shooter in the league (.957) and is tenth in assists (3.7) ... Hammon's 14.7 ppg is 12th in the WNBA, while her 1.4 steals a game is 19th ... Liberty rookie Sherill Baker is doing quite well for herself in her first professional season ... She is 14th in the WNBA in free throw shooting (.839), and is the third highest rated rookie in that category, behind Seimone Augustus and Cappie Pondexter ... Baker is ranked 16th in steals with 1.4 per game, and is again the second highest ranked rookie, this time behind Sophia Young ... Erin Thorn, on fire as of late from three-point land, is currently ranked first in the league with her .473 long range shooting percentage ... Second-year player Loree Moore is making her mark on both ends of the court ... She is sixth in the WNBA in assists (3.8) and sixth in steals (1.9) ... Two New York players also make the Top 10 in blocked shots ... Kelly Schumacher sits in the eighth place spot Shameka is just behind her in the ninth-spot both with 1.2 bpg.
THE END OF A STREAK
New York ended its longest winning streak of the 2006 season Tuesday night with a loss to Connecticut ... The Liberty had won three consecutive games, against Chicago, Charlotte and Minnesota...The other multi-game win streak New York experienced this kind of record was earlier this season when they defeated Washington at home on June 21, 72-66, then followed that up on June 24 with a 93-83 win in Minnesota.
