MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL - The Minnesota Lynx today announced a partnership with General Mills that encourages fans to ‚¬Ëœclick-to-commit' and ‚¬Ëœtext-to-give' during Lynx games in support of Join My Village, which provides educational and economic opportunities for women and girls in Malawi. Through in-arena messaging, a co-branded Join My Village/Lynx widget, a special section on www.lynxbasketball.com and the Lynx' various social media vehicles, fans will be encouraged to donate to Join My Village and help women and girls in Malawi take their futures into their own hands.

"I am surrounded by strong women every day as a member of the Minnesota Lynx," said Lynx guard Candice Wiggins. "I've had great opportunities in my life. I want to make sure all women and girls are given those same opportunities to reach their full potential. That's why I support Join My Village. Together, we can empower women and girls in Malawi become forces for their own change."

Beginning Friday, June 17, fans can donate by visiting www.joinmyvillage.com or by texting ‚¬ËœGIVE' to 25383. All donations made on www.joinmyvillage.com will be matched dollar for dollar, up to $900,000, by General Mills and MERK. Donations via text will be for $10 and all proceeds generated through the season-long campaign will go to help women and girls in Malawi.

"Join My Village is all about empowering women and girls to realize their dreams," said Jeff Peterson, director of innovation and strategy for the General Mills Foundation. "We're excited to be partnering with the strong women of the Lynx in an effort to provide valuable educational and economic opportunities for women and girls in Malawi."

"As a mother of three beautiful girls, I understand that every girl must be given the opportunity to go to school and build the skills and confidence needed to meet life's challenges head on," said Lynx center Taj McWilliams-Franklin. "That's why I support Join My Village. Together, we can give every child a chance to succeed."
