Tulsa Shock News Release
TULSA, Okla. (June 16, 2011) - The Tulsa Shock added second-year center and sixth overall pick in the 2010 WNBA Draft Jacinta Monroe earlier today.
Monroe, a 6-foot-5 center, appeared in 17 games for the Washington Mystics in 2010, averaging 2.1 points in 6.9 minutes a game. Monroe was selected sixth overall in the 2010 WNBA Draft by the Mystics before being traded alongside Katie Smith to the Seattle Storm this past off-season.
"What she brings is some size," General Manager and Head Coach Nolan Richardson said. "When (Elizabeth) Cambage went down, it exposed us and our lack of size. She's bringing size, she can run the floor and block some shots. Shot-blocking is an area that she can really help us."
At Florida State Monroe was named to the All-ACC First Team and All-ACC Defensive First Team while becoming the sixth player in ACC history to have 300-plus blocks for her career.
