Lynx Add Two Local Products in Today's 2011 WNBA Draft

MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL - After choosing University of Connecticut star Maya Moore and Xavier University forward Amber Harris with the first and fourth overall picks respectively, the Lynx also added two local products to the team's roster in today's WNBA Draft. The Lynx traded the 13th overall pick, Jessica Breland, to New York in exchange for former St. Paul Central star Angel Robinson and the Liberty's 2012 second-round pick. Minnesota then moved its 14th overall selection, Felicia Chester, to Atlanta in exchange for the draft rights to Australian Rachel Jerry and the Dream's 2012 second-round pick. With the 26th overall selection (third round), the Lynx took former Benilde-St. Margaret's standout, Kachine Alexander.

Robinson, a 5-8 guard, finished her collegiate career as one of the most decorated players to ever don a Marquette uniform as she ranks in the top 12 in eight career statistical categories, including a school-record 134 career games played. The All-BIG EAST First Team selection and WBCA All-America Team finalist stands second on the career steals (277), free throws made (434) and free throws attempted (600) lists, third in assists (570), sixth in points (1,699), eighth in field goals made (587) and 12th in rebounds (640). Robinson is the only player in program history to amass over 1,500 points, 500 rebounds, 500 assists and 250 steals for her career.

Robinson, a St. Paul, Minn. native, was named Minnesota's Miss Basketball in 2007 after averaging 16.3 points, 5.3 assists and 4.9 steals per game while leading St. Paul Central to the Minnesota State Championship and an undefeated season her senior year. Robinson was a first team all-state selection in 2007 as well as the Minneapolis Star Tribune's and Pioneer Press' Metro Player of the Year.

Alexander, a 5-9 guard, enjoyed a standout career at the University of Iowa, earning the most All-America awards in school history. She was a four-time All-American after being named honorable mention by the Associated Press and WBCA as a junior and senior. She earned first team all-Big Ten honors as a junior and senior, along with second team accolades as a sophomore. She became the first Big Ten women's basketball player to record two triple-doubles in the same season when she accomplished the feat as a sophomore. Alexander finished her career ranked second in school history in double-doubles (34), second in rebounding (910), eighth in assists (339) and 16th in scoring (1,239).

Alexander, a Minneapolis, Minn. native, starred at Benilde-St. Margaret's High School. A first team all-state and second team all-metro honoree as a senior, Alexander was named the 2007 Conference Player of the Year and was a finalist for 2007 Miss Minnesota Basketball. A first team Pioneer Press All-Defensive team member her senior season, Alexander was a four-time all-conference honoree and a McDonald's All-American nominee.

Jarry, 19, has spent the past three seasons playing in Australia's premier women's basketball league, the WNBL (Women's National Basketball League). In 20 games this season, the 6-0 guard averaged 13.4 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 25.4 minutes per game en route to leading Bulleen to the WNBL Championship. Jarry represented Australia at the 2009 FIBA U19 World Championship in Thailand, finishing fifth. In 2009, she won gold at the U20 National Championships with Victoria.
