INDIANAPOLIS - Stanford point guard Jeanette Pohlen was chosen with the ninth pick in the 2011 WNBA Draft, highlighting an Indiana draft that included local prospect Jori Davis of Indiana University, with the 33rd overall selection.

The Pac-10 Player of the Year and an Associated Press First Team All-American, Pohlen was the catalyst of a Stanford team that was ranked among the country's top three NCAA teams throughout the 2010-11 season. She guided the Cardinal to a 33-3 record as a senior, culminating in a national semifinal loss to Texas A&M in the same arena, Conseco Fieldhouse, which she will begin her pro career.

The first Stanford player ever drafted by the Fever, Pohlen capped her senior season with career highs of 14.5 points and 4.8 assists per game while shooting 41.7 percent from 3-point range. She broke Stanford's single-season record for 3-pointers made with 96 and became just the fourth player in Stanford history to record 1,000 points, 500 assists and 400 rebounds in her career.

"The sky's the limit for her," said Fever Head Coach Lin Dunn of the Fever's top pick.

"She's such a great shooter," added Chief Operating Officer and General Manager Kelly Krauskopf. "I think she can make an impact right now. Great shooters can do that. You can't teach court sense and feel, and those are things we always liked about her. She has that Stanford pedigree. In fact, we kind of compare her to a former Stanford player, Nicole Powell, who just knocks down shots. We think she can be a lot like Powell or even Katie Douglas."

Dunn continued about Pohlen, "She's got tremendous shooting and scoring ability. She's such a great student of the game, too. We really like her versatility to play either the 1 or the 2, and the versatility she brings to the lineup. We think she and Bri [returning guard Briann January] will look really good together in our backcourt."

In Davis, the Fever chose a local guard who was an explosive scorer and all-around player for the Hoosiers who finished 9-20 last season. A second-team All-Big Ten selection, she finished third in the conference scoring race with 19.5 points per game.
