SALEM: The Hillcats are 4-8 against the Red Sox this season...The two teams have met seven times in Salem and five times in Lynchburg...The Red Sox won the first seven match-ups of the year, but the 'Cats have pulled out four of the last five in dramatic fashion, with game-winning hits coming in the eighth inning or later in three of the four wins...Last season, the Red Sox took the season series 11-8 over Lynchburg...Myrtle Beach (2010 Braves Advanced-A affiliate) fared worse against Salem, winning just five of the 20 match-ups...

WHAT A DIFFERENCE A MONTH MAKES: After the games on May 7 this season, the Salem Red Sox boasted a 20-7 record, best in the Carolina League, while the Hillcats who started the year 1-10, were working there way back to respectability at 10-17 good for seventh place overall in the league, ahead of the Potomac Nationals (10-18)...Exactly one month later, after the Hillcats' June 7 win over Salem the two teams now sit at equal 26-31 records...The Red Sox find themselves in fourth in the Southern Division and the Hillcats are in third in the Northern Division...

THE 'CATS CAN BAT: After racking up 15 hits (one shy of their season-high) last night, Lynchburg is hitting .270 on the season, .14 points higher than the next best clip (Myrtle Beach, .256)...The 'Cats are second in home runs (45), second in doubles (120), first in triples (19), and not surprisingly they lead the league in slugging percentage at .421 (only team slugging over .400)...They also boast the fewest strikeouts (383)...They average the most runs scored per game at 4.63...However, they also have given up the second-most runs in the league, only allowing less than the Potomac Nationals who boast the league's worst record at 22-36...
