Frederick Keys News Release

Win number eight in a row came in a melancholy tone for the Keys as they saw 1B Tyler Townsend and CF Trent Mummey leave the game in the fifth inning with apparent hamstring injuries. Still Frederick, who fell behind 3-0, battled back to win its eighth consecutive game while moving 6.5 games up in the Carolina League's North by a 6-4 final.

Townsend left the game after pulling up running out a ground ball in the top of the fifth inning. Mummey crumpled to the ground, chasing a fly ball in right-center field off the bat of Washington Nationals third baseman Ryan Zimmerman in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Down 3-2 in the fifth inning, the Keys tied the ballgame when 2B Jonathan Schoop laced his second double of the night to the wall near the line in left field. Running from first was Mummey who soared around the bases to knot the score.

In the sixth inning it was Steve Bumbry's turn. With one on and one out the rejuvenated Bumbry tattooed a two-run shot to right field, his third home run of the season to put the Keys ahead 5-3.

Frederick would get strong relief work from Chris Petrini and Sean Gleason, allowing a combined run in four innings to close the game. Gleason notched his league high 16th save.

Keys starter Ryohei Tanaka (3-0) won his third consecutive start with five hard fought innings. Nationals rehabber Zimmerman went 0-for-2 with a walk and a throwing error in the game.

The Keys will have Oliver Drake on the hill looking for a series sweep Thursday, June 9th at 7:05 p.m. The UPS Store Pre-Game Show begins at 6:45 p.m. on 1450-AM The Source.

Frederick returns home with a weekend series with fireworks following all three games. Friday, June 10th it opens as the Keys take on Lynchburg with first pitch slated for 7:00 p.m. For tickets contact the Keys Box Office at 1-877-8-GO-KEYS or visit online at frederickkeys.com.
