THE HILLCATS: Last night Lynchburg blanked Salem with a 3-0 win in the third game of the four-game series at City Stadium...Tonight is the final game of the set against the Red Sox and the last contest of a seven-game homestand...The Cats are now 2-4 on this homestand...

VS. SALEM: The Hillcats are 7-9 against the Red Sox thus far this season and are 5-4 at City Stadium...The Cats went 10-10 against the Sox in the 460 series last season and were 5-5 at Lewis Gale Field...In the post-season the Cats swept the Sox three games to none in the Mills Cup Championship...In the all-time series Salem leads 163-144 during the regular season...The last time the Sox came to town the Cats swept the three-game series, which is still the lone sweep of the season for the Green & Gold...

MMM...DOUGHNUTS: Last night Lynchburg kept Salem off the scoreboard to earn their ninth shutout victory of the season...It was not until the 45th game of the season that the Hillcats blanked an opponent, but they now have posted nine shutouts in their last 54 games...

BECOMING THE HUNTER: RHP Brock Huntzinger gave up three runs in five and 2/3 innings last night for Salem...Despite coming one out shy of a quality start, the right-hander took the loss which was his third this season against the Hillcats...The Reds Sox starter is now 0-3 with a 6.48 ERA in five starts against the Cats this season...Against the rest of the Carolina League the mid-season All-Star selection is 7-3 with a 2.67 earned run average...

PLAY ME A SONG CURTIS: RHP Curtis Partch threw six scoreless innings last night to earn his fourth win of the season...In his previous four starts he was 1-3 with a 13.50 ERA (25 earned runs in 16 and 1/3 innings)...In those four outings he has given up 42 hits in 16 and 1/3 innings...His start a night ago matched his longest of the season, he matched his most strike outs in an outing and it was the first time in a start this season he did not allow a run...

BANG FOR YOUR BUCK: UTIL Neftali Soto went 3-for-4 last night with a pair of doubles, a home run, an RBI and two runs scored...On the homestand he is 6-for-24 (.250) and all six of his hits have been extra-base hits...He has three doubles and three home runs in six games on this homestand...His slugging percentage has gone from .429 to .450...Soto is now tied for second in the league in home runs and he leads the team in long balls and RBI (51)...

IF I COULD TURN BACK TIME: RHP Nick Christiani allowed five runs (four earned) and three home runs in two innings of action Friday night...In eight appearances since returning from the Disabled List he is 0-1 with a 9.90 ERA (11 earned runs in 10 innings)...He has allowed 13 hits in his last five and 2/3 innings...Prior to his stint on the D.L. Christiani was posting a 1.04 ERA (three earned runs in 26 innings), and now his ERA sits at 3.50 with the Hillcats...

DENIS THE MENACE: OF Denis Phipps went 3-for-4 last night with three doubles, an RBI and a run scored...Thursday night he homered on his 25th birthday to give him a homer in three straight games, becoming the first Hillcat to accomplish the feat this season...On the homestand the new Hillcats has gone 11-for-22 (.500) with five doubles, a triple, three home runs, nine RBI and seven runs scored in six games...In ten games with Lynchburg since coming down from Double-A Carolina the outfielder is batting .395 (15-for-38) with four home runs and 11 RBI...

FREE FALLIN': RHP Justin Freeman worked an and 1/3 scoreless innings Wednesday night and all four outs he recorded were via the strike out...He has now thrown 15 and 1/3 consecutive scoreless frames and over those 12 games his ERA has dropped from 4.60 to 3.09...He has now tied the longest scoreless streak by a Hillcat this season (RHP Nick Christiani, 5/11-6/8)...The right-hander is first in the league in games pitched (38), tied for third in games finished (25), tied for second in holds (7), first in fewest walks per nine innings (1.16) and third in fewest base runners per nine innings amongst relievers (9.45)...Freeman is also second on the team with six saves...In April his ERA was 7.88, in May it was 3.07, in June it dropped to 2.40 and so far in July he has not given up a run in eight appearances out of the pen...

HURRAY FOR DAY: OF Kyle Day went 1-for-3 with a walk last night and has now hit in a season-high ten straight games, which is one game shy of tying the longest streak by a Hillcat this season...He has hit in 18 of his last 20 games and over that time he is 27-for-67 (.403) with three doubles, a triple, two home runs (including a grand slam), 13 RBI, ten runs scored, seven walks and three steals...In those 20 contests Day has raised his average from .226 to .276...

TONIGHT'S OPPOSING PITCHER: RHP Michael Lee was selected by the Red Sox in the 10th round of the 2008 draft out of Oklahoma City University...That same year he made his professional debut with Short-Season Low-A Lowell where he had a 12.00 ERA in four relief appearances...Last season he threw for full season Low-A Greenville and went 3-4 with a 3.50 ERA in 18 games (four starts)...This season with Salem the righty has posted a 7-3 mark with a 3.82 ERA and two saves in 25 games (four starts) with the Red Sox...Lee has made three relief appearances against Lynchburg and gone 1-1 with a 4.00 ERA against the Hillcats...
