WINSTON-SALEM, NC (JULY 25, 2010) - The Winston-Salem Dash today announced that IF Zach Kayne has retired from professional baseball. There is no corresponding roster move at this time to fill Kayne's spot on the roster.

Kayne recently re-joined the Dash from low-A Kannapolis, but had not appeared in any games for Winston-Salem since his promotion. He spent roughly two weeks on the Dash roster in the first half of the season and played in two games, going 0 for 3 with a walk. In 24 games with the Intimidators this season, Kayne hit .175 with two doubles, a triple, and seven RBI.

The 5'10" infielder was drafted by Chicago in the 22nd round last year and made his professional debut with Great Falls. Kayne hit .266 with no home runs, 15 RBI, ten doubles, two triples, and 28 runs scored in 54 games with the Voyagers. Kayne played college ball at nearby Davidson College and was the second-highest draft pick in school history. In his senior year, Kayne led the Wildcats with a .340 batting average and set the school's all-time single-season record for doubles with 22. He was the team's MVP in 2008, hitting .318 with one home run and 28 RBI.

The Dash has 24 players on its roster, one below the Carolina League limit.

Winston-Salem and Potomac finish their four-game series today at 2 p.m.
