(WINSTON-SALEM, NC) A ten-run eighth inning powered the Potomac Nationals to a series-splitting 13-3 demolition of the Winston-Salem Dash on a sweltering Sunday afternoon at BB&T Ballpark.

A.J. Morris dominated for the first six innings; he did not allow a base hit after the second hitter of the game (the only base-runner after Garcia was Jon Gilmore, who was hit by a pitch in the fourth.) Morris struck out five and allowed just the two hits en route to his third win of the year.

Before the explosion in the eighth, the Nats weathered some tense moments. They added a pair of runs in the top of the seventh on Bill Rhinehart's RBI double that made it 3-0. Clayton Dill then gave a pair of runs back when he allowed two base hits and three walks. Carlos Martinez then got a huge strikeout of Mike Richard to keep Potomac ahead.

But the Nats removed all drama in the game's penultimate inning. Sean Rooney led off the frame with a single to center and Dan Lyons walked. Chris Curran laid down a sacrifice bunt, but Jon Gilmore threw wide of third base attempting to cut down the lead runner. From there, the Nats wrapped out three consecutive doubles (Steve Lombardozzi, Will Ortiz and Derek Norris) that scored five runs.

Potomac was not nearly done. Tyler Moore walked for the second of three times, and Nick Moresi ripped another double off the wall in center to score two more runs. Robbie Jacobsen, the ninth batter of the inning, struck out for the first out before Rooney walked. Dan Lyons then pummeled a three-run homer to left and it was 13-2.

Martinez pitched the final two innings relatively unscathed; Seth Loman hit a ninth-inning home run to center but Martinez got the next three hitters to send the Nats home happy.

Potomac kicks off a three-game set in Wilmington Monday night at 7 P.M. Danny Rosenbaum makes his second Potomac start against arguably the league's dominant starter, John Lamb. The broadcast can be heard beginning at 6:45.
