THE HILLCATS: Last night Salem pounded out an 11-2 win over Lynchburg and the Red Sox have now taken the first two games of this four-game series...The Hillcats have now lost five of their last six games...Tonight is the third game of the set against Salem and the sixth contest of a seven-game homestand...

VS. SALEM: The Hillcats are 6-9 against the Red Sox thus far this season and are 4-4 at City Stadium...The Cats went 10-10 against the Sox in the 460 series last season and were 5-5 at Lewis Gale Field...In the post-season the Cats swept the Sox three games to none in the Mills Cup Championship...In the all-time series Salem leads 163-143 during the regular season...The last time the Sox came to town the Cats swept the three-game series, which is still the lone sweep of the season for the Green & Gold...

HOME BITTER HOME: Lynchburg has started this homestand 1-4 and has now lost 10 of their last 11 games at Calvin Falwell Field...The Hillcats went 0-6 on their last homestand and have gone from two games over .500 to seven games under at home...

HOLY HASSAN: OF Alex Hassan went 2-for-4 with a home run, four RBI and a run scored last night...In the series the outfielder has gone a combined 4-for-8 with two home runs (one a grand slam), eight RBI and two runs scored...In his first 64 games this season Hassan had three homers and 25 RBI...This marks the first time in his career he has homered in consecutive games...

IF I COULD TURN BACK TIME: RHP Nick Christiani allowed five runs (four earned) and three home runs in two innings of action last night...In eight appearances since returning from the Disabled List he is 0-1 with a 9.90 ERA (11 earned runs in 10 innings)...He has allowed 13 hits in his last five and 2/3 innings...Prior to his stint on the D.L. Christiani was posting a 1.04 ERA (three earned runs in 26 innings), and now his ERA sits at 3.50 with the Hillcats...

DENNIS OF MENACE: OF Denis Phipps went 1-for-4 last night with a run scored...Thursday night he homered on his 25th birthday to give him a homer in three straight games, becoming the first Hillcat to accomplish the feat this season...On the homestand the new Hillcats has gone 8-for-18 (.444) with two doubles, a triple, three home runs, eight RBI and six runs scored in five games...In nine games with Lynchburg since coming down from Double-A Carolina the outfielder is batting .353 (12-for-34) with four home runs and ten RBI...

HOTCHKISS OF DEATH: RHP Jordan Hotchkiss pitched five scoreless innings Tuesday night and left in line for his seventh victory of the season...The right-hander has not given up a run in his last two starts (12 innings)...The converted reliever leads the Carolina League in ERA (2.20), WHIP (0.99) and is second in batting average against (.205)...

FREE FALLIN': RHP Justin Freeman worked an and 1/3 scoreless innings Wednesday night and all four outs he recorded were via the strike out...He has now thrown 15 and 1/3 consecutive scoreless frames and over those 12 games his ERA has dropped from 4.60 to 3.09...He has now tied the longest scoreless streak by a Hillcat this season (RHP Nick Christiani, 5/11-6/8)...The right-hander is first in the league in games pitched (38), tied for third in games finished (25), tied for second in holds (7), first in fewest walks per nine innings (1.16) and third in fewest base runners per nine innings amongst relievers (9.45)...Freeman is also second on the team with six saves...In April his ERA was 7.88, in May it was 3.07, in June it dropped to 2.40 and so far in July he has not given up a run in eight appearances out of the pen...

BOWMAN ON TARGET: LHP Andrew Bowman threw two and 2/3 innings of scoreless relief Thursday night...He has now thrown six straight scoreless appearances (ten innings) and hasn't surrendered a run in nine of his last ten outings...His ERA has dropped from 6.90 to 5.08 over that time...

HURRAY FOR DAY: OF Kyle Day went 1-for-4 with run scored and a walk Wednesday night and has now hit in a season-high eight straight games...He has hit in 16 of his last 18 games and over that time he is 24-for-60 (.400) with three doubles, a triple, a grand slam, 11 RBI, nine runs scored, six walks and three steals...In those 18 contests Day has raised his average from .226 to .271...

TONIGHT'S OPPOSING PITCHER: RHP Brock Huntzinger was selected by the Red Sox in the third round of the 2007 draft out of high school in Indiana...That same year he worked four games (three starts) for the GCL Red Sox and went 0-1 with a 2.57 ERA...The next year he pitched for both Short Season Low-A Lowell and full season Low-A Greenville...With Lowell he went 5-0 with a 0.64 ERA and with Greenville he had a 2-3 mark with a 7.09 ERA...Last season he returned to Greenville where he had a 10-9 record with a 4.09 ERA in 25 starts with the Drive...This season he has made 18 starts for Salem and has gone 7-5 with a 3.53 ERA...Huntzinger has made four starts against Lynchburg this season, going a combined 0-2 with a 6.98 ERA (15 earned runs in 19 and 1/3 innings)...Huntzinger, who was named a mid-season Carolina League All-Star, is 7-3 with a 2.67 ERA...
