Potomac Nationals News Release

(WINSTON SALEM, NC) The Potomac Nationals were a strike away from a dramatic win in a marathon affair Friday night in Winston-Salem. A pair of two-out singles in the twelfth inning by the Dash sealed a 13-12 walk-off winner. Derek Norris had hit a tie-breaking home run in the top of the twelfth that gave the Nats a lead in the seasaw affair that took four hours and 31 minutes to complete.

But Brandon Short lined a two-out, two-strike offering into left field to tie the game at 12. On the next pitch, Drew Garcia blooped a single into left-center field to end the affair.

Winston-Salem drew first blood with a pair of runs in the in the second inning off Brad Peacock. Jordan Cheatham hit a two-run double to give the Dash a 2-0 lead.

The Nationals answered back in the third. After a bases loaded walk got Potomac on the board, Tyler Moore stayed hot and hit a three-run double off Dash starter Joe Serafin. They tacked on two more and led 6-2.

Peacock could not hold the lead; the Dash batted around in the third. The first four Winston players had base hits and all four came home to score. Seth Loman, Logan Johnson, and Cheatham knocked in the runs to tie the game at six.

The Dash took its second lead in the fourth, scoring three runs off reliever Carlos Martinez. Again, Loman and Johnson drove in runs along with Jose Martinez to put Winston ahead 9-6.

Each team scored in the fifth before Potomac notched two in the sixth to cut its deficit to one run. Winston plated a run in the seventh inning to go on top 11-9, but the lead did not hold.

Tyson Corley gave up a game-tying two-run double to Sean Rooney in the eighth. The game stayed tied until Norris hit the big blast in the twelfth.

Dan Leatherman came on in the bottom of the twelfth. Jose Martinez led off with a single and moved to third base on a sacrifice bunt and a fielder's choice. Leatherman then hit Mike Richard to put men on the corners with two outs to set up Short and Garcia's heroics.

The teams resume the series Saturday at 7 P.M. Marcos Frias duels against Stephen Sauer; the broadcast can be heard beginning at 6:45.
