Frederick Keys News Release

The Keys jumped out to seven-run lead on Saturday night but watched it quickly evaporate as Myrtle Beach tied the game up in the sixth inning. Nodded up at seven, Frederick scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh and escaped with a 9-7 victory over Myrtle Beach.

After a scoreless first inning, the Keys plated four runs in the second, three of which came on one swing of the bat. With two out and two on, C Phillip Britton belted a pitch from LHP Matt Crim deep to rightfield for a three-run blast. Britton's homerun was his first long ball since August 14, 2008 when he was on the Myrtle Beach Pelicans.

Frederick added another run in the second on a RBI single by Pedro Florimon. Florimon has driven in nine runs over the last four games.

Frederick continued their offensive onslaught in the third inning. After a Billy Rowell walk and LJ Hoes single, DH Miguel Abreu crushed the Crim offering for a three-run shot. Abreu's third homerun of the season gave the Keys a 7-0 lead after the three innings.

RHP Luis Noel tossed three perfect innings against Myrtle Beach before running into trouble in the fourth. The Pelicans cut their deficit to five runs following a two-run double by 1B Mike Jones. Following a scoreless fifth inning, the Pelicans tied up the game in the sixth. 2B Dan Nelson and RF Luis Sumoza each hit a two-run homers to cut the Keys lead to just one. Following the Sumoza blast to right-center, Noel was lifted from the game. Noel allowed six earned runs on seven hits over five innings.

RHP Brett Jacobson entered the game and walked the first batter he faced in Samuel Sime. Sime got to second on a wild pitch and later in the inning he successfully stole third base and then advanced home on a throwing error by C Phillip Britton. The unearned run tied the game at seven after six innings.

Despite watching a seven-run lead disappear, the Keys regained the lead in the seventh inning. With one out and Billy Rowell on first, LJ Hoes hit a double off the base of the wall in left-centerfield. Rowell hustled all the way around to score from first and Hoes advanced to third on the throw home. On the next pitch, Frederick executed a suicide squeeze to perfection. Miguel Abreu bunted the Angelo Paulino pitch to right side of the infield as Hoes easily scored from third to give the Keys a two-run advantage.

Brett Bordes closed out the contest with a perfect ninth inning as he picked up his first save of the season. Jacobson improved to 7-0 on the year while Angelo Paulino fell to 2-4 for Myrtle Beach.

The Keys and Pelicans will play the finale of the four-game series on Sunday evening. Frederick will send RHP Ryan O'Shea (5-5, 3.98) to the hill while Myrtle Beach will counter with RHP J.J. Hoover (7-5, 3.65). First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m.
