THE HILLCATS: Last night Wilmington pounded out an 11-3 win over Lynchburg and have now taken the first two games of the three-game set at City Stadium...After winning five out of six and three in a row, the Hillcats have lost their last seven contests, which is now their longest losing streak of the season...Tonight is the final game of the three-game series with Wilmington and the last contest of a six-game homestand...
VS. WILMINGTON: The Hillcats are 4-9 against the Blue Rocks this season and 2-4 in the Hill City...The Cats went 5-15 against the Rocks during the regular season last year, 3-7 at City Stadium and 2-8 at Frawley Stadium...Wilmington was the only team in the Carolina League with a winning record versus the Hillcats last season...In the post-season though, the Cats topped the Rocks three-games-to-two in a best of five series to win the Northern Division Championship and advance to the Mills Cup...Wilmington has the all-time advantage over Lynchburg 188-125...
JULY FOR THE BIRDS: Lynchburg dropped to 0-7 in the month of July with their 11-3 loss last night...The Hillcats ended June by winning five of their last six games, but have lost every game this month so far...The seven-game is the Cats longest losing streak of the season...
RELIEF IN SIGHT: The Hillcats are in the midst of 12 games in a row against Wilmington and Winston-Salem...Thus far they are 1-7 during this stretch against the two teams that currently have the top two records in the Carolina League in the second half of the season...The Cats are a combined 4-18 against these two squads this season...
HIT PARADE: The Blue Rocks had 11 runs on 21 hits last night in their 11-3 win...The 21 hits were the most by the Blue Rocks this season and the most allowed by the Hillcats...The previous high against Lynchburg was at Winston-Salem, when the Dash had 19 hits against the Cats on May 22nd...The Rocks total a night ago came three shy of tying the most hits the Hillcats have ever given up...The Kinston Indians had 24 hits against the Green & Gold on August 22nd, 2007 at Grainger Stadium...
BLAST FROM THE PAST: Last night RHP Jairo Cuevas earned the win for Wilmington, RHP Devon Lowery pitched a scoreless ninth inning and OF Jarrod Dyson went 3-for-6 with an RBI, three runs scored and a stolen base...All three of those Blue Rocks have previously played against the Hillcats prior to the 2009 season...Cuevas pitched in the Carolina League in 2007 with Myrtle Beach and went 6-12 with a 3.55 ERA in 25 starts...He went 1-2 with a 2.22 ERA in four starts against the Cats that season...Lowery, who appeared in five games with the Royals in 2008, pitched for the Blue Rocks in 2004 and went 9-9 with a 3.66 ERA in a league high 28 starts...He made four starts against the Hillcats and had a 3-0 mark...Dyson last played in the CL in 2008 with the Rocks, batting .260 with 24 RBI and 39 steals in 93 games...The left-handed hitter had a .170 (8-for-47) mark against Lynchburg in 16 games...Wilmington's roster also features former Hillcat Eddie Prasch (2008, 2009), who is currently on the Disabled List and on the first day of the series Jamie Romak was called up to Double-A within the Royals system...Romak played parts of three season with Lynchburg (2007, 2008 and 2009) and is second-all-time in home runs for the Hillcats...He was recently named Player of the Week in the Carolina League for the second time and was named CL Player of the Month after hitting .407 in June...
ROUGH PATCH: RHP Curtis Partch allowed seven runs on 11 hits in two and 1/3 innings last night...In his last three starts he has gone 1-2 with a 13.50 ERA (19 earned runs in 12 and 2/3 innings) and has given up 34 hits...Over that time his earned run average has gone from 3.52 to 5.35...The 13 hits Partch gave up two starts ago were the most hits given up in a game by a Hillcats hurler this season...
RIGHTING THE SHIP: LHP Andrew Bowman worked a pair of scoreless innings last night...The appearance marked the sixth time in his last seven games that the lefty did not give up a run in an outing...In his last seven appearance he has a 2.16 ERA (two runs in eight and 1/3 innings) and has lowered his ERA from 6.90 to 5.87...
WHAT'S YOUR PRICE FOR FLIGHT: Wednesday night OF Kyle Day went 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run...He has hit in nine of his last 11 games and over that time he is 14-for-34 (.412) with three doubles, a triple, a grand slam, nine RBI, seven runs scored, five walks and three steals...In those 11 contests Day has raised his average from .226 to .258...
TONIGHT'S OPPOSING PITCHER: LHP John Lamb was selected by the Royals in the fifth round of the 2008 draft out of high school in Laguna Hills, California...He made his professional debut last season with Rookie Burlington and went 2-2 with a 3.95 ERA in six starts...He finished the season with Rookie Idaho Falls where he has a 3-1 mark with a 3.70 ERA in eight starts...This season he began the campaign with full season Low-A Burlington and and was 2-3 with a 1.58 ERA in eight starts when he got called up to Advanced-A...With Wilmington he has posted a 4-2 mark with a 1.55 ERA in nine starts with the Blue Rocks...The 19-year old has only allowed more than one earned run in two of his 17 starts this season...Lamb entered the season rated as the seventh best prospect in the Royals system...Tonight will be his first start against Lynchburg...
