Hill City Howlers News Release

The Blue Rocks scored three pitches into the ballgame and the run was all they needed to sweep the series against the Cats. Lynchburg was swept for the second straight time at home and drops their eighth straight ballgame.

Jarrod Dyson led off the game with a double on two pitches from starter Jordan Hotchkiss. He scored on Christian Colon's first-pitch single.

The Blue Rocks scored again in the third after Adam Frost reached on an infield single to lead off the frame. After stealing second, Frost was caught stealing on a pickoff attempt by Hotchkiss. But Hotchkiss' throw to second went into centerfield and Frost took third base. He scored on a sacrifice fly by Dyson.

After the infield single, Hotchkiss retired 13 straight Blue Rocks until Nick Francis stepped in with one out in the seventh. Francis greeted Hotchkiss with a no-doubt home run to put Wilmington up 3-0. The Blue Rocks scored one more unearned run off Hotchkiss in the eighth.

Wilmington scored again in the ninth off reliever Nick Christiani. Francis and Wil Myers hit back-to-back doubles to put the Rocks' fifth run on the board.

Hotchkiss had a great bounce-back outing. After struggling July 4 against Winston-Salem, he came back and set a new career-high with a seven and two-thirds innings outing. The start was the Hillcats' longest of the season to date. He gave up four runs, but only two were earned and struck out four. But he gets the loss, his third of the season and second in as many starts.

Lynchburg heads on the road for seven games, three in Winston-Salem and four in Myrtle Beach. The Hillcats return home July 19 against Frederick. Tomorrow's Hillcats-Dash series opener starts at 7 p.m. Catch the On Deck Show presented by Honda/Suzuki of Lynchburg at 6:40 on KD Country 105.5 FM in Lynchburg or Lynchburg-Hillcats.com.
