TODAY'S GAME:

The Hillcats continue a four-game series against the Kinston Indians with Game Three at Grainger Stadium...The Indians survived 4 Hillcats homeruns last night to win 6-5...The Hillcats have now lost 3 straight games, matching their longest losing streak of the year...Despite the loss, Lynchburg is just 0.5-games back of first place in the Northern Division...All 4 Northern Division squads are seperated by a total of just 0.5-games in the standings...Kinston is the only team in the Carolina League with an above .500 record and the K-Tribe have posted a stellar 10-2 home mark....The two opponents on this road trip, Kinston and Myrtle Beach, have a combined 19-5 home record...The Hillcats are winless in day games this year, posting an 0-4 total...

TODAY'S MATCHUP

- RHP Derek Hankins (see page 4) looks to continue his strong pitching against LHP Chuck Lofgren, who has earned wins in each of his first 3 outings this year.

- Lofgren, 20, is a 6-3, 205-pound left-hander selected by Cleveland in the 4th round of the 2004 draft out of Junipera Serra HS. The Redwood City, CA native spent 2005 with Lake County (A, SAL) and compiled a 5-5 record with a 2.81 ERA (93.0 ip, 73 h, 31 r, 29 er, 43 bb, 89 k). In his first full season of professional baseball, he went 0-0 with a 6.04 ERA with Burlington (R, Appalachian). Prior to the 2006 season, he was rated as the 8th best prospect in the Cleveland Indians system by Baseball America.

- Lofgren is 3-0 with a 1.15 ERA this season (15.2 ip, 11 h, 3 r, 2 er, 5 bb, 17 k)

NEWS AND NOTES:

The Hillcats connected on a season-high 4 HRs in a 6-5 loss to Kinston last night... Remarkably, that total equaled the Cats HR total through each of the first 17 games this season... The Hillcats record for HRs in a game is 5, done twice, and most recently on 4/27/05 at Kinston...Mike Carlin hit his league-leading 4th homerun of the year in the loss...The slugger has reached base safely in each of his first 18 games this season (.300-4-19)...Carlin and Brad Correll hit back-to-back HRs in the 7th inning...Brian Bixler has reached base safely in 10 straight games (12-34, .353-0-3)...Nyjer Morgan stole his league-leading 12th stolen base on Monday night...Hillcats manager Gary Green was ejected for the first time this season last night...Steve Duguay tossed a scoreless inning in relief...The right-hander has not allowed a run in each of his last 4 outings (4 ip)...Brad Correll made 2 spectacular defensive plays, including a sliding grab in right field with the bases loaded and 2 outs in the 4th inning...

The Cats have committed just 2 errors in their last 7 games...Their opponents have committed 13 during that stretch...The Cats allowed 10 hits to the Indians last night...It marks the first time since 4/11 (12 games) that the team surrendered a double-digit hit total...The Hillcats stranded a season-low 3 baserunners last night...

2006 SERIES WITH KINSTON

Kinston leads the season series, 2-0. The Kinston Indians won the 2005 season series, 12-8. The Indians also won the 2004 season series, 11-8. However, the Hillcats won the 2003 matchup, 13-7. Lynchburg also dominated the 2002 series, 17-3, and then took the Mills Cup Series, 3-1. Overall, Lynchburg leads the lifetime series, 115-103 (.528).

- The Hillcats have gone 50-36 (.581) in the last 86 G of this series & they've have taken 66 of the last 112 (.589) going back to '00.
