It was a home run derby at Grainger Stadium on Tuesday Night as Lynchburg and Kinston hit a total of six homeruns, with the K-Tribe holding on to a 6-5 victory over the Hillcats. The Hillcats started the fireworks in the second inning with a two run homerun from catcher John Suomi, putting Lynchburg up 2-0. The Indians responded immediately as Stephen Head led off the bottom of the second inning with a solo homerun, Heads second of the year. Matt Whitney followed three batters later with a two run home run, Whitney's third round tripper of the year. The K-Tribe added another run in the inning on an RBI single by Brian Finnegan, taking a 4-2 lead they would never let go of. Kinston added another run in the fifth as Trevor Crowe scored on a sacrifice fly by Brian Barton. The K-Tribe would score their sixth run one inning later as Whitney scored on a sacrifice fly by Argenis Reyes.
The Hillcats clawed their way back into the game with a solo homerun by Vince Rooi in the sixth, followed by back to back home runs by Mike Carlin and Brad Correll in the seventh, cutting the lead to one. With two outs and a Lynchburg runner on second in the eighth inning, Argenis Reyes made a run saving catch, leaping high in the air to pull down a Carlin line drive that could have tied the game. Jensen Lewis (2-2) picked up the win for the K-Tribe, T.J. Burton pitched a perfect ninth inning for his third save of the year and Lynchburg's Brian Holliday (1-2), picks up his second loss of the season. The K-Tribe (13-5) owns the best record in the Carolina league and will square off with Lynchburg in a special 11 AM game Wednesday morning.
