LAST TIME OUT - Triston McKenzie went seven innings for the first time in his professional career, but an unearned run generated by a bad pickoff throw enabled Winston-Salem to defeat the Hillcats, 1-0, at City Stadium Tuesday night.

- McKenzie used 87 pitches and struck out seven while walking three. In the fifth inning, Johan Cruz and Danny Mendick each walked to open the frame. A fielder's choice put runners on the corners with two outs. McKenzie attempted to pick off Luis Basabe at first base, but a low throw rolled away from the bag, and Cruz came home for the lone tally of the contest.

- Justin Garcia worked two scoreless innings out the Hillcats bullpen, an appearance that featured four strikeouts.

POW! POW, POW! - Sam Haggerty became the first Hillcat to earn Carolina League weekly honors after going 9-21 with four doubles and three triples during the week of April 24-30. He added three stolen bases, two RBIs and scored nine times in five games batting leadoff for the Hillcats.

- Haggerty currently leads the Carolina League in a number of offensive categories, including triples (6), extra-base hits (13) and slugging percentage (.606). Furthermore, the switch-hitter ranks third on the circuit with 17 runs scored and fourth in both stolen bases (8) and doubles (7).

- Haggerty has demonstrated the ability to hit with some pop from both sides of the dish, belting four doubles and four triples batting left-handed while notching three doubles and two triples from the right side. Because of the fewer number of at-bats, his slugging percentage when batting right-handed against lefties is a staggering .762 and his OPS is 1.217 when facing southpaws.

- Last year, the Hillcats tied a team record with 10 Carolina League weekly awards, including three consecutive Players of the Week at one point. Tyler Krieger, Bobby Bradley, Anthony Santander, Mike Papi, Dorssys Paulino and Yu-Cheng Chang all earned the distinction of Carolina League Player of the Week in 2016 to go along with four different CL Pitchers of the Week.
