QUICK HITS: Peralta makes his fifth start of the year for the Keys on Wednesday. He is coming off his shortest outing of the season against the Carolina Mudcats on April 28, where he lasted just 1.2 innings, allowing five runs (all earned) on just two hits. He walked four batters, and for the first time this season didn't strike out any. He threw 55 pitches, and only 27 for strikes.

HOME WOES: Peralta's three home starts have not gone well. Overall, he has tossed just nine innings and allowed 11 runs on 11 hits. He has walked 11 and only struck out nine at Nymeo Field. In his only road start, he tossed five innings of one-hit baseball against the Carolina Mudcats.

LOOKING FOR LENGTH: Peralta has only made it through the fifth inning in one start this year. Command has been a big reason why, as his 15 walks rank first on the Keys and tied for second in the Carolina League. This high walk total has contributed to a high pitch count as well. In his first three starts, he went 4.0, 5.0, and 3.1 innings and threw 86, 90, and 80 pitches respectively. He has only thrown 53% of his pitches for strikes.

DELMARVA 2016: Started 23 games for the Shorebirds, good for fourth on the team. He went 8-5 with a 4.01 ERA, throwing 103.1 innings. Won his first game as a professional on May 12, going five innings allowing two hits, an unearned run, and striking out six against Greensboro. Struck out 101 batters, but command was an issue, as he walked a team-high 60. Those 60 walks were also the third-most in the South Atlantic League.

WORKING ON COMMAND: Peralta will continue to focus on command this season, as the 5.2 BB/9IP ratio he posted last season was the best in his career. In 2015 with the GCL Orioles he issued 6.7 BB/9IP and in 2014 with the DSL Orioles he issued 7.7 BB/9IP (43.1 IP/37BB). Nonetheless, when Peralta is on, he is tough to hit. In his career. Peralta is limiting opponents to a .215 batting average against (though only one of those years has been at a full season affiliate.

PROSPECT HEAVY ROTATION: Peralta is a part of a Keys rotation that boasts four of the top 15 Orioles prospects according to Baseball America. He is ranked as the Orioles No. 12 prospect according to the publication. Other starters included are Cody Sedlock (2), Keegan Akin (6), and Brian Gonzalez (15).

ALL EYES IN JULY: The month of July was a successful one for Peralta, earning Orioles Minor League Pitcher of the Month honors. The righty went 3-0 with a 2.57 ERA in four starts. He held opponents to a .116 batting average. July also featured a rain-shortened, five inning no-hitter against Hagerstown on July 8.

THEY SAID IT: (Shorebirds manager Ryan Minor on Peralta in 2016): "His stuff is really good. He can throw three-plus pitches at times, it's just a matter of repeating in the zone and controlling your pitches. I know a lot of guys who threw 100 miles-per-hour and didn't make it out of A-Ball. He's got the makeup and intangibles to be able to (move up) though, or (the Orioles) wouldn't have sent him here at such a young age. Hopefully he can give us some good outings and he can build his confidence."

MORE ON PERALTA:

Peralta was signed as a free agent by the Orioles on September 7, 2013. He was 16 when he signed. He was born in, and currently resides in, Bonao, DR.
