Lynchburg Hillcats News Release

Lynchburg defeated Frederick 2-1 on Tuesday night at Harry Grove Stadium. The Hillcats recovered from an early deficit to earn their third consecutive win and their 11th victory in the last 14 games dating back to May 4.

Frederick drew first blood when Matt Angle scored from third on an RBI groundout by Tyler Henson in the bottom of the first, putting the Keys up 1-0.

The Hillcats promptly answered with a run in the top of the second. Matt Hague led off the inning with a double. Kris Watts followed with an RBI single that plated Hague and evened the score at 1-1.

Lynchburg claimed the lead in the top of the sixth. Maiko Loyola drew a leadoff walk. Loyola swiped second base as Jose De Los Santos struck out swinging. Jordy Mercer laced a double to center field that scored Loyola and gave the Hillcats a 2-1 lead.

After the Hillcats took the lead, Lynchburg relievers Chris Cullen and Michael Dubee each worked two scoreless innings to preserve the victory for starter Ronald Uviedo.

Uviedo (2-1) limited the Keys to three hits and one run while striking out seven in five innings pitched. Timothy Bascom (3-4) was charged with the loss for Frederick. Dubee collected his third save of the season while Cullen was credited with his fifth hold.

With the win, Lynchburg improves to 25-13 and remains atop the Carolina League's Northern Division. Frederick falls to 17-21 and sits 8 games in back of the first-place Hillcats.

Game three of the series takes place on Wednesday night at Frederick's Harry Grove Stadium. First pitch is slated for 7 p.m.
