
Lup, Cats top Aviators 7-2

Ken Lup was 3-for-4 with two RBIs Monday night as the Cats upended Coastal Bend 7-2 at LaGrave Field.
Cats' starter Joel Kirsten (1-2) delivered his best start of the season, giving up just two runs on five hits in eight innings of work. He struck out six and walked just one to notch his first victory of the season.
In front of 3,097 fans, the Cats took a lead in the second inning on back-to-back run-scoring singles by Lup and Kip Harkrider. They made it 3-0 in the third when Jordan Foster scored on a throwing error by the shortstop Wilson Burwell.
Coastal Bend rallied, scoring two runs in the fourth inning on an RBI double by Byron Smith and a run-scoring single by Jeff Ontiveros.
But the Cats would scored a run in the seventh and three in the eighth, highlighted by Marc Mirizzi's fourth homer of the season, a two-run shot to right, making it 7-2 Fort Worth.
Aviators' starter Tim McGough took the loss as he went five inningsand gave up three runs, two earned on five hits. He struck out seven and walked five.
The victory puts the Cats' record back at .500 at 21-21 and moves them just two games behind Coastal Bend and Pensacola who are now tied for first place with identical 23-18 records. The Cats have six games remaining in the season's first half.
