Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers News Release

The Thunder Bay Border Cats scored two runs in the 8th inning to take the lead en route to a 4-3 win over the Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers Friday night at Subway Field at Port Arthur Stadium in Thunder Bay. The Lunkers, leading 3-2 going into the Bottom of the 8th, saw their lead slip away. The Lunkers Matt Florer gave up a two-run double to Thunder Bay's David Fallon, giving the Border Cats the tying and go-ahead run.

Thunder Bay had put two runs up earlier in the game to take a 2-0 lead. The Border Cats got a great pitching performance from their starter Logan Birr. Birr was perfect through four innings and would end up going six, giving up one hit and striking out 11.

The Lunkers would score three runs in the 7th to take a 3-2 lead. Casey Roche was able to score on a passed ball after he singled to start the inning. The passed ball moved Phil Imholte up to 2nd base. Tyler Wampler's singled scored Imholte to tie the game at 2. After a Steven Brault walk, Dan Olinger would single, followed by an errant throw by the pitcher Ryan Lucero that allowed Wampler to score.

There was a controversial call in the Top of the 9th. On a throw from the pitcher Brad Delatte, the Border Cats 1st baseman Kevin Taylor appeared to drop the ball when the baserunner Tyler Wampler ran into him. Wampler was called out by base umpire Jeff Marts for the first out of the Top of the 9th.

Donnie White would take the win for Thunder Bay. Florer took the loss for the Lunkers, and Brad Delatte picked up his first save.

The Lunkers are back in action Saturday night in Mankato against the Mankato Moondogs. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 CT.
