FrogVille, WI - Green Bay dropped a hard-fought back and forth battle on the road against the Eau Claire Express 4-3 on Friday. A RBI fielder's choice by Eau Claire's Nick Addison was the difference in the seventh.
It was tied at three in the bottom of the seventh when Garrett Custons led off with a single and moved to third after a sacrifice bunt and a base hit. Nick Addison drove in the game winning run for Eau Claire with a fielder's choice on a slow ground ball to second base that Alec Mehrten had no chance to turn two on.
In the eighth inning, Green Bay responded with a lead-off base hit from Billy Moon and a sacrifice bunt by Joe Betcher. After moving to third on a ground out, Cameron Dullnig stepped in with two outs and the tying run on third. He hit a sinking line drive into left field but Garrett Custons, a catcher playing left field, made a great diving catch to end the inning and save the game for Eau Claire.
Green Bay had a lead in the top of the fourth inning after they scored two runs to take the lead. Steven Halcomb reached with two outs in the fourth on a throwing error by Eau Claire's third basemen. The next hitter Alec Mehrten hit a RBI triple to right field to tie the game at the time. Mehrten would score one hitter later on a wild pitch to make the game 3-2 at that point.
Eau Claire responded right away in the bottom of the fourth with a pair of doubles. Josh Scheffert led the inning off with a two-bagger. Custons drove him in with two outs on a double to make tie the game. The Bullfrogs scored first for the first time on the road this season in the second inning to take a 1-0 lead thanks to Alec Mehrten's RBI double. The Express came back in the bottom of that inning with two runs of their own. Bullfrog starter Drew Bradshaw walked back to back hitters with one out. Alex Allbritton then smacked a two-RBI double to give Eau Claire the lead.
Bradshaw went four innings allowing six hits and three earned runs. Andy Hunter took the loss giving up the fielder's choice RBI in the seventh. He went three innings in relief allowing three hits, one run while striking out three. Billy Moon continued his seven-game hitting streak going 1-3. The loss is Green Bay's first on the road. The twelve hits allowed by the Bullfrogs is a season high.
