(Brainerd Lakes Area) - The Thunder Bay Border Cats scored two unearned runs in the Top of the 9th en route to a 5-3 victory over the Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers Saturday at Mills Field.
A ground ball by Thunder Bay's Brett Kay got past Lunkers SS Tyler Wampler to score Ino Patron in the 9th. The Border Cats would add one more run in the inning on a passed ball.
Charlie Henderson got the start for the Lunkers and pitched seven innings, taking a no decision. He gave up two runs and struck out three.
Paul Toboni had a nice night for the Lunkers, going 2 for 2 and scoring a run. Wampler had two hits and an RBI.
Thunder Bay's starter John Lally went 5.2 innings giving up three runs and striking out six.
Reid Rooney gets the win for Thunder Bay. He came on in relief and pitched well in his 2.1 innings of work.
Steven Brault takes the loss for the Lunkers as he falls to (0-1). Joseph Koon picks up his first save in his first appearance for Thunder Bay.
The Lunkers and Border Cats are back in action Sunday afternoon at 1:05. Kye Winter gets the start for the Lunkers against John Straka for Thunder Bay.
