Clinton LumberKings News Release
Davenport, IA - The Clinton LumberKings fell to the Quad Cities River Bandits in come from behind fashion 5-4 on Wednesday night at Modern Woodmen Park. Quad Cities (36-30) stormed back from down two in the eighth to score three and hand Clinton (37-29) their third straight loss.
The LumberKings offense was doormat through the first six innings. River Bandits pitchers Leovanny Rodriguez, Brendan Feldmann, and Parker Mushinski held Clinton scoreless and without out a hit going into the seventh inning before the offense would tally their first run of the series.
Quad Cities owned a 2-0 heading into the seventh from RBIs by Colton Shaver. A second inning sacrifice fly put the River Bandits on the board and his eighth home run of the year, in the fourth, looked as though it would put the game away.
Clinton then broke into the hit column in the top of the seventh with a Ryan Costello bunt single down the line at third. Mushinski (3-1) struck out the next two batters before Eugene Helder homered to right to tie the score at two. His fourth home run of the year.
In the top of the eighth, the LumberKings added on with two more runs to take their first lead of the series. Walks to Louis Boyd and Joseph Rosa set the table for Ariel Sandoval who singled home the first run with a line drive to left and Costello followed with an RBI single to center.
Leading 4-2, the LumberKings turned to Scott Boches (1-1) to work the bottom of the eighth. Jake Meyers lead the inning off by reaching on a Eugene Helder throwing error and was followed by a Corey Julks single to center. Following a fielder's choice, Cody Bohanek tripled over the head of Sandoval in center to tie the game at four and scored the winning run on the next pitch when Shaver lifted a sacrifice fly to right for his third RBI of the game.
In the top of the ninth, Willy Collado worked a 1-2-3 inning for the River Bandits to record his second save of the season.
The LumberKings magic number to clinch a playoff spot remains at four and the second straight loss to the River Bandits will mean Clinton can no longer clinch at Quad Cities.
The LumberKings will meet the Quad Cities River Bandits for the finale of their three-game series on Thursday night. Clinton will throw left-hander Ray Kerr (2-5, 4.56) while the River Bandits will counter with righty Cesar Rosado (2-2, 5.36). First pitch is slated for 6:35 PM. Fans looking to listen to the game can hear Erik Oas on the call on 100.3 FM WCCI and online at lumberkings.com via the tune in radio ap at 6:20 PM with the pregame show.
