Traver's Solid Start Along with Del Rosario's Relief Outing Earns Burlington the Victory

Burlington Bees News Release

Burlington, IA. - The Burlington Bees (29-36) were back in town and didn't disappoint the fans, beating the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (31-34) 3-2. Mitchell Traver (5-3) earned himself another victory for another solid start on the mound. Traver went five innings, allowed just one run on four hits and sent six batters back to the bench with a strikeout. Carlos Herrera (1-4) suffered the loss for his efforts in relief. Herrera gave up two earned runs, three total on five hits.

Mclnerney lets it fly

Pat Mclnerney hadn't seen himself hit one over the fence since May 21st, but that changed when Mclnerney hit a two out solo home run for an opposite field shot, giving Wisconsin a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.

Wisconsin enjoyed the lead for a while thanks to great pitching from starter Dylan File. File pitched the first three and a third inning great, but Wisconsin decided to go to the bullpen after just 41 pitches.

Bees rock Timber Rattlers bullpen

Kevin Williams Jr got a one out hit in the fourth to continue his hit streak to nine games. Williams Jr then stole his first bag of the season, and Franklin Torres drove him in on a single to left, tying the game 1-1. After a ground out from Keinner Pina, Torres got driven in by Julio Garcia's double to right to give Burlington a 2-1 lead.

Bees added another run in the sixth. With Torres on third, Pina hit a sharp liner between third and short, and third basemen Gilbert Lara tried fielding the ball, but it went off the top of his glove, earning him and error, and allowing Torres to score, making it 3-1 Burlington.

Rough outing for Tavarez

Wisconsin added a run in the seventh after Jorge Tavarez had issues with his control. Gilbert Lara led the inning off with a single and was followed up with a walk by Tristen Lutz. After a fly out from KJ Harrison, Zach Clark sent a double off the wall in center, scoring Lara and cutting the Bees lead to 3-2. Tavarez then walked Devin Hairston to load the bases, and that was all we saw of him. Luckily, Eduardo Del Rosario got the Bees out of the jam, and pitched the final two innings scoreless, giving Burlington the 3-2 victory.

Good days at the plate

Many Bees players had good night at the plates once again. Kevin Williams Jr went 2-4 tonight and scored a run. Williams Jr's hot week at the plate has now raised his average to .263 on the season. Franklin Torres raised his average up to .268 after a 1-3 night with an RBI, a walk, and two runs scored. The big man tonight was Julio Garcia, who went 3-4 with an RBI.

King Bee Player of the Game

Tonight's player of the game was Eduardo Del Rosario. Del Rosario tossed the final two and two thirds innings, gave up just two hits while throwing five strikeouts. Two of those strikeouts came in the seventh inning, that allowed Burlington to escape without giving up the game tying run. Tonight's relief outing also gave Del Rosario his first save of the season.

Looking ahead

Bees are back in action tomorrow night at Community Field, as they will take Wisconsin in the second game of the series. Burlington is expected to start Jose Soriano who is 0-1 with a 9.00 ERA. Tomorrow would be his second start with Burlington if he takes the mound. He struggled in his Bees' debut, giving up three runs in three innings pitched. Wisconsin is expected to go with Christian Taugner, who is 2-4 with a 3.74 ERA in twelve starts. Don't expect Burlington to earn a lot of walks tomorrow against him, because Taugner has only thrown nine walks in 65 innings this season. He has allowed 70 hits though, so Burlington will need to be looking for pitches to hit from him all game if they want to get runs on the board.
