Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release

MUSKEGON, Michigan (September 17th) - The Muskegon Lumberjacks have announced the four players that will be serving as the team's captains for the upcoming 2013-14 season. The two Captains will feature Cullen Hurley and Mason Jobst to go alongside the two Assistant Captains in Matt Mendelson and Trevor Morbeck.

Cullen Hurley, the Eagan, Minnesota native, is entering his second season with the Lumberjacks after recording 12 goals and 13 assists in 66 games played last season.

"I feel honored and humbled to be named as one of the captains by our coaches and team," said Hurley. "We have a lot of young talent on the team that is the new to the USHL, and as one of the older and more experienced guys, I am excited to help lead this team in any way that I can."

Mason Jobst, the Speedway, Indiana native, is entering his third season with the Lumberjacks after accumulating 8 goals and 26 assists in 96 career games played in Muskegon.

"It's an honor to be chosen as one of the leaders as I look forward to continue to lead by example both on and off the ice by working hard," said Jobst. "I plan on providing a positive voice in the locker room as we have a good group of guys on this year's team that can take us far this season."

Matt Mendelson, the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania native, is entering his second season with the Lumberjacks after totaling two goals and one assist in 17 games played last season.

"It's a real honor to be recognized by the organization even when I am still considered as a 'rookie' in the USHL," said Mendelson. "It's a big responsibility, but I am ready to take on the challenge and do whatever it takes to help this team win."

Trevor Morbeck, the Jackson, Wisconsin native, is entering his first season with the Lumberjacks after spending the last four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) with the Sault St. Marie Greyhounds, Kingston Frontenacs, and Oshawa Generals totaling 29 goals and 51 assists in 220 games played.

"It feels good knowing that I'm a player that the guys can rely upon if they need any advice on or off the ice," said Morbeck. "Being one of the older guys on the team, it's important to provide a certain level of leadership to the younger players and let them know that they can trust me if they need any guidance."

The Lumberjacks will begin their 2013-14 regular season campaign this Saturday, September 21st in Green Bay against the Gamblers at 8:05 pm. The following weekend, Muskegon will travel to Ann Arbor on Friday, September 27th to take on the USNTDP Under-17 Team at 7:00 pm.
