
Tenth Anniversary Season Starts Saturday

BENCH LINE-UP: The 2013-14 Ice outfit is once again under the direction of general manager and head coach Jeff Brown. Brown will be in his first full season behind the bench after assuming the role last December. As for his coaching staff, Adam Krug was promoted in the offseason to associate head coach, while Indiana added former Indianapolis Ice all-star defenseman Bernie John as an assistant coach. Darrin Flinchem returns for his tenth year as the club's equipment manager, while Todd Champlin is back after a one-year hiatus as the team's head athletic trainer.
WARMUPS: Indy had a respectable preseason showing as the team notched a 2-0-1 record in three contests against Chicago, Green Bay and Muskegon. Newcomer Jacob Pritchard (G, A) joined veterans Patrick Newell (G, A), Mitch Hults (2A) and Jake Cass (2A) on top of the scoring column, while goaltenders Samu Perhonen and Jason Pawloski allowed only three goals in three contests with Perhonen shutting out the Chicago Steel 1-0 last Monday at Pan Am Pavilion.
HOOSIER HOSPITALITY: Indianapolis was center stage for junior and youth hockey as the Indiana Ice hosted the first ever USHL Eastern Fall Classic and Bigfoot Hockey Showcase. The large preseason event welcomed the entire USHL Eastern Conference in addition to over 30 of the nation's top youth hockey programs. Additionally, the Fall Classic served as one of the largest scouting events of the season for many NHL and NCAA Division I programs.
OPENING LORE: The Ice is 6-3-0 in season openers and 5-2-0 when opening the season on the road. In last season's debut, the Ice fell victim to three consecutive goals in a 3-2 opening loss to the Chicago Steel at the Edge Ice Arena. Austin Ortega (UNO-NCHC) and Woody Hudson (St. Lawrence-ECAC) recorded tallies in the contest.
COLLEGIATELY SPEAKING: 11 of the Ice's current players already have commitments to NCAA Division I universities.

HOCKEY BITES: Aidan Muir (Edmonton-113th overall) and Brian Pinho (Washington-174th overall) were both selected in the 2013 NHL Draft...Tyler Pham returns for his third USHL season and will serve as team captain...The Ice's roster includes nine full-time returning players (Jake Cass, Mitch Hults, Joshua Jacobs, Patrick Newell, Vince Pedrie, Tyler Pham, Jason Salvaggio, Alex Smith, Alex Talcott).
