SALISBURY, MD. - The Delmarva Shorebirds couldn't get anything going against Augusta GreenJackets starter Sam Strickland, as the Shorebirds fell 7-1 on Saturday night at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.

For the sixth time in seven home games, the Shorebirds (13-22, 34-66) saw their opponent, in this case the GreenJackets (51-48, 15-18), get on the board in the first inning.

Connor Blair rocked the first pitch of the game over the wall in left for a solo homer, his seventh of the season. Adam Zebrowski added an RBI single later in the inning to make it 2-0.

In the fifth, Augusta put the first two on and eventually loaded the bases with one out. Braulio Vasquez then beat out a fielder's choice to drive in a run and make it 3-0.

The first three walked to open the seventh for Augusta. A Zebrowski sacrifice fly scored a run before a fielder's choice re-loaded the bases. Mahki Backstrom and Francisco Floyd then followed with RBI singles to make it 6-0.

Augusta added one more run in the eighth on an Eliezel Stevens RBI single.

The Shorebirds broke up the shutout bid in the ninth when Luis Valdez tripled to open the inning and was then balked home to make it 7-1.

Sam Strickland (4-2) fired eight shutout innings for the GreenJackets in the win. He allowed just two hits and a walk, striking out 11.

Juan De Los Santos (2-9) suffered the loss for Delmarva, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits and four strikeouts over three innings.

The Shorebirds wrap their series with the GreenJackets on Sunday, August 7 at Perdue Stadium. The Shorebirds have yet to announce a starter while Augusta goes with Rainiery Rodriguez (2-2, 3.12). First pitch is slated for 5:05 p.m with pregame coverage beginning at 4:50 p.m. on MiLV.TV and theshorebirds.com with Sam Jellinek on the call.
