
Lugnuts power way to win

Cedar Rapids, Iowa - Brian Pettway's three run homer in the seventh inning lifted the Lansing Lugnuts to a 7-5 win over the Cedar Rapids Kernals at Veterans Memorial Stadium Sunday afternoon.
With the score tied 4-4, Jesus Gonzalez walked to start the Lugnuts rally in the seventh. Luke Hetherington was then hit by an 0-2 pitch before Pettway blasted his three run homer to left field to put Lansing ahead 7-4. It was his 14th home run of the season.
The Lugnuts fell behind early in the game when Jordan Renz cracked a three run homer to put the Kernels ahead 3-0 in the first.
Joey Metropoulos's solo shot for Lansing cut the lead to 3-1 in the second inning.
The Lugnuts took the lead in the fourth when Sean Shoffit singled home Josh Bell to pull the Lansing within one run at 3-2. Zack Kalter's two run single followed Shoffit to put the Lugnuts ahead 4-3.
Cedar Rapids tied the score in the sixth frame on Renz's second homer of the game, a solo homer to left field. The longball tied Renz for the league lead at 20.
Jordan Timm (4-2) picked up the win for the Lugnuts, throwing two innings of relief and allowing one run on two hits.
Po-Hsuan Keng nailed down the save for his second one of the season.
Lansing (58-53, 18-26) and Cedar Rapids (50-53, 19-24) will continue the series on Monday night. Chi-Hung Cheng (8-5, 3.11) will start for the Lugnuts, while Amalio Diaz (0-0, 6.00) will get the call for the Kernels. First pitch is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. EST.
