Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
FOX CITIES STADIUM -- Johan Limonta capped a pair of Wisconsin Timber Rattler comebacks with a game winning home run in the bottom of the ninth inning for an 11-10 victory over the Beloit Snappers. Wisconsin trailed 5-1 and 10-7 in the game, but got the win against their instate rivals on Sunday afternoon. There were six home runs hit in the game --three by each team, but it was Limonta's first Fox Cities Stadium homer that was the biggest.
Beloit (60-52 overall, 25-19 second half) got out to the early lead with a run in the first on a sacrifice fly by Erik Lis.
The Rattlers (41-73, 14-30) tied the game with a solo homer by Kuo Hui Lo in the bottom of the second.
The Snappers got back in front with a four run third inning. Edward Ovalle's sacrifice fly broke the tie. Dwayne White's three-run homer put Beloit up 5-1.
Wisconsin rallied for six runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Limonta started the inning with a double. One out later, Lo singled in Limonta. The single by Lo started a string of five straight hits by the Rattlers.
Lo stole second and scored on a Travis Scott single. A double by Jeff Flaig sent Scott across the plate. Eddy Hernandez singled and an error on the play allowed Flaig to score and tie the game 5-5. Ron Garth's two-out, two-run single put the Rattlers up 7-5.
But, that lead would not hold. Lis singled to start the fifth and scored on a home run to rightcenter by Ovalle to tie the game. Later in the inning, a throwing error by Scott on a play at third base allowed the go ahead run to score and Beloit was up 8-7.
Tarrence Patterson looked like he put the game away for Beloit with a two-out, two-run homer in the top of the eighth inning for a 10-7 lead. But, Wisconsin wasn't done yet.
Moore started the bottom of the eighth with a home run to center off Frank Mata. Back-to-back singles by Lo and Scott put runners at first and third with no outs. Snapper closer David Shinskie entered and got a strikeout for the first out of the inning. Hernandez drove in a run with a grounder to pull the Rattlers to within 10-9, but it was also the second out.
Wisconsin needed a clutch hit and Minaker came through with a double off the left field wall to tie the game 10-10.
Brian Kappel pitched a scoreless top of the ninth to set the stage for Limonta.
Shinskie got the first out of the ninth, but fell behind Limonta 2-0. The next pitch was low, but Limonta went down and got it to drive the ball over the centerfield wall for the game winning home run.
Game three of the series is Monday night. David Asher (1-1, 4.47ERA) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Rattlers. Eddie Morlan (3-5, 2.91ERA) is slated to start for the Snappers. Game time is 7:05pm.
